LeRoy - Katherine M. Ballanti, 53, of Le Roy Manor, passed away peacefully onTuesday January 24, 2017. She succumbed to lung cancer at 7:20 A.M. in Strong Memorial Hospital. Thank you to everyone that respectfully attended to her needs.

Kathy was born in Manhattan, NY in 1963 to her proud parents, Leota Hnatkiw Ballanti and Dominic Ballanti. Kathy was predeceased by her parents.

She is survived by her half-sister Judith (and Daniel) Tamburrino of Auburn, NY, her half-brother Theodore (and Norma) Cappetti of Tampa, FL, and her half-sister Marie Hnatkiw, formerly of Rochester, NY. Other relatives and friends include her favorite cousin Howard Swedosh of Rochester, NY, her loyal, longtime friend June Johnson of Rochester, NY, her dear friend Sandy Metsinger of Le Roy Manor, Le Roy, NY, and her most treasured companion Clayton Smith of Le Roy Manor, Le Roy, NY. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

We would like to recognize the kind and caring staff and residents of Le Roy Manor.  Kathy thought of everyone there as members of her extended family.  Katherine Hnatkiw, the well-known opera singer of Rochester, NY, was Kathy’s grandmother. In an attempt to follow in her namesake’s footsteps, it was Kathy’s dream to be a famous singer in New York City. Although that desire did not reach fruition, Kathy’s musical voice, infectious smile, and warm heart will remain forever with those that knew and loved her.

There will be a graveside memorial service for Katherine Ballanti on Monday January 30, 2017 at 11 A.M. in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, NY. She will be buried in tier/lot 336 alongside her maternal grandparents.

Arrangements were entrusted to the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main Street, Batavia.  Please leave a condolence, share a story, or light a candle at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com.
