John T. Johnson

Hermitage - Age 80, of Hermitage, NY passed away on June 25, 2017 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.

He was born October 15, 1936 in Fillmore, NY son of the late Floyd and Alma Youngs Johnson. In earlier years, John was employed as a herdsman for Wadsworth’s in Geneseo. He then worked for many years in building maintenance at the Wyoming County Community Hospital. John was a co-owner with his father-in-law of the Ly-Jon Crate Company. He worked as a foreman at Valor Lumber in Freedom and was a longtime expert timber evaluator.

John was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #560, Warsaw and the Silver Lake Sportsmen’s Club, Perry and he was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting deer, coon and rabbit as well as trapping. John enjoyed metal detecting, was an avid wine maker and he always loved his time spent with family.

Surviving are his wife, Lisa Drake Johnson; his children, James (Monica) Johnson of Portageville, Teresa (Matthew LaPiana) Bosdyk of Perry, Brian Johnson of Castile, Steven (Jessica) Johnson of Batavia, Jenna Rae (Ben) Lambert of Hermitage; his grandchildren, Eric (Holly) Howe of Groveland, Kaleesi Johnson of Batavia; great granddaughter, Alex Howe; his brother, Frederick (Yoko) Johnson of Florida, Charlotte (the late Ray) Forsberg of Warsaw; several nieces, nephews and cousins; close friends, Isaac Bailey of Indiana, Keith and Dee Wolcott of Gainesville, Gary and Kim Newell of Wethersfield and his canine companion Rags. He was the brother of the late Mildred Bartof, Helen Wheeler and Emmy (Jay) West.

Friends may call Thursday, June 29 from 4 – 8 PM at Robinson & Hackemer Funeral Home, 246 N. Main St., Warsaw where John’s funeral service will be held Friday, June 30 at noon. Burial will be in Hermitage Cemetery.
