Joseph P. DeGasperi

Joseph P. DeGasperi, 87 of Akron, passed away peacefully on Monday (July 6, 2015) at Brother of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born September 8, 1927 in Sardagna de Trento, Italy, son of the late Massimo and Virginia Bontempelli DeGasperi.

He traveled to America as an exchange student to study at the University of Buffalo and was employed as a machinist at Excel Industries in Clarence prior to his retirement.  Mr. DeGasperi enjoyed his family and his large gardens at his home. He was also a member of St. Teresa’s R.C. Church in Akron.

He was predeceased by his wife, Maria L. DeGasperi, who died August 15, 2008.

Survivors include two daughters, Loretta DeGasperi of Clarence Center and Virginia (Thomas) Burkhart of O’Fallon, IL. Two sons, Robert DeGasperi of Houston, TX and Paul (Michele) DeGasperi of Amherst, NY. Also survived by his four grandchildren, Michael, Andrea, Liana and Charlie.

Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Friday (July 10th) from 4-7pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 32 John St., Akron. A  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, 10:30am at St. Teresa’s R.C. Church, Buell St., Akron. Interment will be in St. Teresa’s Cemetery.
