Elizabeth A. “Betty” Hakes

Batavia - Elizabeth A. “Betty” Hakes, 88, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, (August 5, 2015) at her home, in Batavia.

Mrs. Hakes was born June 27, 1927 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Alan and Lena (Laney) Bermingham.

She was married to the late Charles Hakes, Jr. for 62 years and spending time with family was her utmost joy.  Betty was an avid Yankees fan, she also spent many years bowling on local leagues and traveling to many away tournaments.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Deborah LaRussa of Avon Lake, OH, and Janet Hakes of Rochester; her grandchildren, Eric LaRussa and Brianne (Kevin) Barcomb both of Ohio; a sister, Rita (Joseph) Potwora of Batavia.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Along with her husband, Betty is preceded in death by her sister, Lorraine (late James) Moore; and brothers, Thomas (late Shirley) Bermingham, and Donald (late Patricia) Bermingham.

At Betty’s request, there will be no prior visitation.  Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. on Monday (August 10, 2015), at Resurrection Parish – St. Joseph’s Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  Entombment will be in St. Joseph’s Mausoleum, Batavia.
