Richard C. Burnside Jr.

  Richard C. Burnside Jr., 82, of Corfu passed away on Sunday October 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 1, 1936 in Hume, NY to the late Richard Sr. and Dorothy (Remington) Burnside. In addition to his parents, Richard is predeceased by his wife; Derinda (Heise) Burnside; sister Nancy Brege and brother David Burnside.

Richard was a longtime employee and foreman at Rochester Products for 36 years. He was a member of the Morton Fire Department. Richard was an avid bowler and outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, loved camping and snowmobiling. He enjoyed doing scratch off lottery tickets and collecting eagles.

He is survived by his children; Bonnie (Scott) Chatley of Corfu; Edward Burnside of Albion; James Burnside of Corfu; siblings Duane Burnside of Lockport, Gloria Clark of Corfu; brother-in-law Jim Brege; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Friday October 26, 2018 from 2:00-4:00PM & 7:00-9:00PM at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main St. Batavia, New York 14020. RONALD WILLIAM GONYEA

RONALD WILLIAM GONYEA ~ age 80, former owner/operator of Ron Gonyea Builders in Byron, NY died peacefully Saturday, October 20, 2018 at his home while under the care of Hospice and his loving family. Ron was born in Buffalo, NY on April 23, 1938 the son of the late Eli Louis and Agnes  (White) Gonyea also preceded in death by siblings, Louis Eli Gonyea, Romaine Bolt, Nellie Past, Geraldine Arbutina, Frances Brennan and ½ brother, Leo Tiederman.

Ron along with building homes worked for over 10 years at O-K Trojan in Batavia, a longtime member of the South Byron United Methodist Church and Life Member of the South Byron Volunteer Fire Department. He served proudly in the US Marine Corp from 55-58 and was a member of the Botts Fiorito American Legion Post #576 in LeRoy. Ron retired from building after a 20 year career and enjoyed fishing/hunting in Canada and spending time attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Birge) Gonyea of Byron; loving children, Daniel R. (Carol) Gonyea of Byron, Raymond E. (Sonja) Gonyea of Byron, Lori Gonyea of TX and Kathleen (Jon) Thompson of LeRoy; 9 cherished grandchildren, Angela (Kaleb) Yates, Billy & Tiffany Cain, Brooke (Michael) Fauci, Ryan Gonyea, Jordan Thompson, Emily, Mitchell & Matthew Gonyea; 3 great-grandchildren, Faith Hampton, Tesla & Ronin Yates along with several nieces and nephews.

Please join Ron's family for a Celebration of Life Service 11am Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the S. Byron United Methodist Church S. Byron, NY 14457. Edward A. Bartosiak

Edward A. Bartosiak, 99 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Monday (October 22, 2018) at the New York State Veterans Home.

He was born May 10, 1919 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Joseph and Mary Wojtas Bartosiak.

He was employed by Masse Harris and the Yale & Towne Co. in Batavia prior to his retirement. After his retirement, he also served as a crossing guard for the Batavia City Schools. He served his country with the U.S. Army, having been enlisted during World War II.  Always thinking of his fellow Veterans, he volunteered with the D.A.V. at the Veterans Hospital. He was also a longtime parishioner of Ascension Parish and a member of the Holy Name Society. Ed enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching the Batavia Clippers games years ago through the now Muckdog era.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carmella Cervone Bartosiak, who died January 5, 2005 and siblings, Albert, Joseph, Frank, John and Sophie Bartosiak and Helen Jablonski.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Teresa (Thomas) Hare of Silver Lake, Mary Fay of Corfu and Cecilia (late Charlie) Bish of Missouri. Also survived by 6 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Cecylia M. Wandryk

Cecylia M. Wandryk, 83 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Sunday (October 21, 2018) at Crossroads House in Batavia.

She was born May 28, 1935 in Elba, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Slowiki Harezga.

Cecylia was formerly employed by Angelica and the New York State Veterans Home where she was meticulous with folding and organizing clothing. She enjoyed her trips to bingo, casino and horse racing. She loved driving scenic routes and would often take anyone around who would need a ride somewhere. Some would say she was always on the go and seemed like the “Energizer Bunny”. She also enjoyed knitting and made a baby blankets for all her friends and family. Watching the Buffalo Bills and other sporting events were also enjoyed by her, always waiting with anticipation for a successful season.

She was the wife of the late Onofre “Norfe” Wandryk who died February 26, 2009; mother of the late Janet Wandryk who died in 1974 and Lorraine Trykowski who died in 2007. Also predeceased by her brothers, John Harezga, Stanley Harezga, Richard Harezga and Walter Harezga and sister, Sophie Jasinski.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Richard Trykowski III of Darien and Megan Trykowski of Florida. Son in-law, Richard Trykowski II. Sisters in-law, Dorothy Harezga and Joyce Harezga. Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, who will miss her greatly.

David Amend

Oakfield - David L. Amend, 68, of Oakfield, passed away Wednesday, (October 17, 2018) at his home, in Oakfield.

Mr. Amend was born October 31, 1949 in Watertown, a son of Helen (Berry) Amend of Warsaw and the late Leland Amend.

He was a machinist at Kodak, prior to his retirement. Dave enjoyed skiing, vacationing, and racing motorcycles. He will be remembered as a hardworking man. 

Along with his mother, Dave is survived by his wife, Sally (Hendershott) Amend; three sons, Justin Amend at home, Kristopher (Nicole) Amend of Gasport, and Brandon Amend of Memphis, TN; two grandsons, Evan and Kristopher "KJ" Amend; three brothers, Donald (Bonnie), Dale, and Scott; three sisters, Sandy, Susan, and Denise (Stephen). Several nieces and nephews also survive. 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial contribution in Dave's name to Volunteers For Animals, P.O. Box 1621, Batavia, NY 14021.

Joan K. Gerrety

Batavia - Joan K. Gerrety, 89, of Batavia, passed away Wednesday, (October 10, 2018) at Aaron Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, in Penfield.

Ms. Gerrety was born September 16, 1929 in Tonawanda, a daughter of the late James and Effie (Vecklotz) Gerrety.

For over 30 years, Joan worked as a Registered Nurse at the former St. Jerome's Hospital. She enjoyed traveling with friends and visited Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York City and Ireland amongst others. She greatly enjoyed photography, and carried a camera everywhere she went. She also loved Friday night fish fries at the Elk's Club in Batavia. 

Joan is survived by nieces, Pamela Schreiber of Richmond, VA, Cheryl (David) Griggs of Hilton, Melissa (Mark) Costanzo of Richmond, VA; a nephew, James (late Candy) Gerrety of Richmond, VA.

She is predeceased by her brothers, James and Robert (late Shirley) Gerrety.

There will be no visitation. Family and Friends are invited to attend Joan's Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Friday (October 26, 2018) at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia. Private entombment will be in St. Joseph's Mausoleum, Batavia.

David F. Diefendorf

  David F. Diefendorf, 66, of Stafford passed away on Thursday October 18, 2018 at Park Ridge Hospital in Rochester. He was born on July 1, 1952 in Stafford to the late Floyd and Ruth (Landers) Diefendorf. In addition to his parents, David is predeceased by his infant sister Marcia Diefendorf.

David was a Plant Foreman for Allens Inc. in Bergen for 36 years. He was a volunteer fireman with the Stafford Fire Department, a lifetime member at Godfrey’s Pond and a member of the Bergen Rod & Gun Club. David was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt, fish and shoot trap.

He is survived by his daughter; Alana Diefendorf of Stafford.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to be determined by the family.

Nancy L. Lewis

Nancy L. Lewis, 76, of Batavia passed away on Wednesday October 17, 2018 at the United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. She was born in Batavia on March 6, 1942 to the late Frederick and Marie (Marks) Kabel. In addition to her parents, Nancy is predeceased by her siblings; Mary Jane Metcalf, Bobby Kabel, Shirley Dunlap, Jimmy Kabel, Tommy Kabel and Elaine Hoffman.

Mrs. Lewis was a long time secretary for Dr. Fanara’s office in Batavia. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Sodality. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, holding a very special bond with TJ. Nancy never complained about any of her aliments and was happiest when she was making others happy. Her devotion to her husband was matched by his love and care for her.

She is survived by her loving husband; Kenneth Lewis of Batavia; her daughter Shelly (Scott) Johnson of Moravia; grandchildren Haley (Jake) Tubbs of Ithaca and Thomas “TJ” Johnson of Moravia; siblings Gwen Williams of Batavia, Dick (Katie) Kabel of Batavia, John (Carol) Kabel of Batavia, Sharron Kilby of AR., Sandy (Ray) Mickey of Webster, Tim (Becky) Kabel of Oakfield and Judy (Rick) Clark of Batavia; many nieces and nephews; best friend Barbara Barlow of Batavia along with her beloved grand-pup Boot.

DORIS M. COWD

DORIS M. COWD ~ age 85, of East Bethany died peacefully Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the LeRoy Village Green Nursing Home. Doris was born in Eldred, PA on April 8, 1933 the daughter of the late Orval and Anna E. (Wallace) McNeil also preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 2002 and sister, Evelyn Maynard.

Doris had a love of music, gardening and being outdoors to feed the birds. When she transitioned to the nursing home she accepted it and was happy, she enjoyed her puzzles, reading, crocheting, painting and playing Bingo with her new found friends. Doris will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and grandmother who always enjoyed her "grandpuppies".

Doris is survived by her loving daughters, Claudia Conforti of NM, Rita (Paul) Sowinski of Bloomfield, NY, Diana (Robert) Docking of Batavia, Judith (Jim) Missler of E. Bethany; brothers, Jack (Margaret) McNeil of AZ, Irvin McNeil of PA and sister, Mary Bohme of Rochester; 8 cherished grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

PHIL JONES ~ Age 65, of Batavia, formerly of Rochester died peacefully Thursday morning October 4, 2018 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing & Rehab. He was born in Cleveland, MS, January 14, 1953 to the late George Perkins and Perlie B. Mayhill also preceded in death by sisters, Patricia Mayhall Carter, Johnnie Mae Jones and brother, Curtis Mayhall.

Phil leaves to cherish his memories; five daughters, Ashanti Jones Dorsey, Lasheba Renota Ferguson, Venisha Lynette Jones, Carla Jones Miller and Iesha Terry; brothers, Eugene Jones, Willie (Olivia) Mayhall and Derrick Mayhall; 7 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Phil's life will be held privately by his family and memorials in his memory are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Eugenia Ruth Barber, 89 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Sunday (October 14, 2018) at her residence, under the loving care of her family and hospice.

She was born March 28, 1929 in Elba, NY, a daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie Gage Gould.

Eugenia enjoyed crafts, reading, word puzzles and watching games shows on television. She had a huge heart for others and loved expressing it with hugs and kisses. She will be truly missed by all who were touched by her kindness.

She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd Barber; daughter, Elsie Gould and sisters, Violet Johnson, Ruby Manry and Rosie Kittle.

Survivors include family, especially her nephew and niece, Joseph (Kimberly) Heiderman of Batavia and their children, Hannah and Rachel Heiderman. Sisters, Charlotte Draper and Anna Baer, both of Batavia. Brother, Arthur Gould of Ohio. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Meilla Carmella Conte

LeRoy - Meilla Carmella Conte, four month old daughter of Richard Conte and Shannon Levandoski of LeRoy, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Meilla was born June 4, 2018 in Rochester.

Surviving along with her parents are her brother, Sylvester Gerard Conte of LeRoy; her grandparents, Shelly Capamaggio of Medina, Geno Levandoski of South Carolina, Tina M. Conte of Knowlesville and Floyd L. Wilson of Texas; several aunts and uncles including, Danielle Conte and DeAnna Wence; along with her great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.

Frank R. Wickins

Frank R. Wickins, 74, of Attica passed away on October 14, 2018 at the New York State Veterans Home at Batavia. He was born on April 7, 1944 in North Tonawanda to the late Robert W. and Frances (Helf) Wickins. In addition to his parents, Frank is predeceased by his brother; Russell Wickins and son-in-law Rodney MaClane.

Frank was a proud United States Army Veteran. He worked for many years as a lineman for Niagara Mohawk. Frank was an avid fisherman, loved playing Euchre, enjoyed being in his wood shop doing all types of woodworking and after retirement, he spent a lot of time with family in the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River. He was a long time member of the American Legion, Alexander VFW and both the Attica and Batavia Rod & Gun Clubs.

He is survived by his loving wife; Dawn (Wiepert) Wickins of Attica; children Vicki MaClane, Debbie (David) Best, James (Tina) Wickins and Nikki (Tim Augustyn) Kohlhagen; sister Grace Grefrath; 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

Irene M. Tatro

Oakfield - Irene M. Tatro, 88, of Oakfield, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Irene was born September 7, 1930 in Malone, a daughter of the late Clarence and Blanche (Lamitie) Larche.

Irene enjoyed crafts and baking and attended Resurrection Parish and St. Padre Pio Parish.  She was a corrections officer at Albion Correctional Facility and a line worker at Kaufmann Shoes in Batavia.

Survivors include her children, Bonnie Fustanio of Rochester, Raymond Tatro of Texas, Sheron Hyde of Waterport, Debbie Osborne of Stafford, Joey Tatro of Warsaw, Nancy (Phillip) Pfendler of Pavilion, Diane Wyder of Akron and Michelle (Ken) Sahr of Albion; one brother, Jerris (Gail) Larche of Bangor; one sister, Peggy (Gary) Potter of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Rita Larche of Dannemora; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Irene is the mother of the late Thomas Tatro and Lori Russo and sister of the late Robert Larche, Theresa Oakes, Jeannette Martin and Deacon Richard Larche.  

Calling hours are Thursday (October 18) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield.  Irene’s Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday (October 19) at Resurrection Parish - St. Mary's Church, 18 Ellicott Street, Batavia.  Irene will be laid to rest in St. Cecilia's Cemetery, Oakfield.

Addie Marie Burns, passed away peacefully in her mothers arms with her father by her side after a 4 week battle with CDH on October 11, 2018. She was born September 13, 2018 to Brandon C. (Kimberly M. Peet) Burns of Batavia. Addie is preceded in death by her grandfather Matthew Burns.

She is survived by sister Hailey Burns of Batavia; grandmothers Cathy Burns of Batavia, Patricia Ambrose of East Pembroke; great-grandparents Sally Shults of Batavia; Paul Nonnenberg of Batavia; aunts and uncles, Sarah Burns of Attica; Jason Burns of Alexander; Jared Burns, Caitlin Burns, Michael Peet all of Batavia; Kevin Peet of Attica.

There will be no prior calling hours or services.
