Lauretta M. (Stewart) Bower, 91, of Ft. Myers, FL. passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at the Page Rehab & Healthcare Center. She was born on September 7, 1925 in Machias, NY to the late Frank and Susan (Bond) Stewart. She is predeceased by her husband Donald Oliver Bower who passed away in 1975 from a World War II Pacific Theatre related disease.

Lauretta was a member of the Alexander Central Class of 1943, one year after her husband graduated. She and Don began a successful dairy and field crop farm right after his Naval Service in Darien Center, at the corner of Broadway and Smithley Road.  Lauretta was a practiced equestrian with their horses. Once the farm, driven by their mutual hard work was in the clear, Don earned his pilot’s license so the two of them could join the farmers’ group that enjoyed Fly-in Breakfasts every weekend at the Perry-Warsaw Airport. They also enjoyed boating on Silver Lake and eating at the Silver Lake Country Club.  Due to her husband’s health, they had to sell the farm they had worked so hard to make successful, and Lauretta had to leave her horses. In N. Fort Myers, Florida, Lauretta began new careers, first as an administrator as the Cape Coral Golf Club was beginning to sell housing lots around it, and later, for 30 years as a City of Ft. Myers employee. Lauretta became a very active member of the Riverside Baptist Church.  She served as a Sunday School teacher for adults, a member of the choir, and a member of the baptismal staff.  After her retirement she devoted hundreds of hours of her time each year to both her church and Hope Hospice, earning many awards for her excellent and devoted service.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00AM Graveside Service for Lauretta will be held on Saturday April 22, 2017 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica where she will be laid to rest.

Lewis J. Serventi, 95, of Perry, NY passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017. Lew was born on December 6, 1921, a son of Michael Serventi and Mary Ferretti Serventi of Rimersburg, PA.

Lew met the love of his life, Clelia ‘Cleo’ Martinelli Serventi, 96, during high school in Rimersburg, PA. They dated for six years and were happily married for another 73 years. Their nightly toast to each other was ‘we were meant to be’! Lew and Cleo raised two daughters, Michele ‘Mikey’ Rechberger (Wes Kline) of Perry, NY, and the late Debra Jones Duncan (Mike) of Charlottesville, VA. Lew was devoted to and passionate about his family, and passed along his joy of skiing, jazz music, and gardening. He also adopted the interests of those he loved, including his three grandchildren David (Leslie Stinson, Boulder, CO), Kristin (Enric Sala, Washington, DC), and Ed Rechberger IV (Karen), and three great-grandchildren, Derek (Carmen), Lizabeth and Gregory Rechberger.

He was stationed at Boca Raton, FL where he trained incoming squadrons in a new thing at the time called ‘radar’. His tour of duty took him to Saipan and Iwo Jima where his tent was at the base of Mount Suribachi. He could see the American flag waving above him. He was proud to serve the United States of America. After the war Lew returned to the family business of movie theatres in Rimersburg, PA. Later, being entrepreneurs at heart, Lew and his late brother, Mark, brought their young families to Perry, NY in 1954 to start and build the Lew-Mark Baking Company, which became the NY-NJ franchise of Archway Cookies. The baking business flourished and expanded for 46 years under three generations of family leadership, including nephew, the late Michael Serventi and grandson Ed Rechberger IV. Lew was dedicated to community service and was an active, often anonymous philanthropist. He served in the Perry Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow and a devoted photographer of the annual Perry Rotary Show. He was a great supporter of community organizations, including the Boy Scouts, Genesee Community College, Wyoming County Hospital, and Perry Central School. He was recognized regularly for his humble service. He often said ‘Make all you can honestly; Save all you can prudently; Give all you can wisely.’
