  Michael J. Dermody, 56, of Batavia passed away on Thursday February 18, 2016. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 9, 1959.

Michael was a United States Navy Veteran.  He worked as a printer for Applied Business Systems Inc. in Batavia, which he loved.  Mike enjoyed riding his bike, once riding it all the way from Texas to New York.  He was very artistic and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his parents, Stephen (Joan) Dermody of Bergen; brothers Gregory Dermody of Le Roy, Timothy (Reba) Dermody of Sierra Vista, AZ and a sister Wendy (Chad) Caccamise of Batavia along with several nieces and nephews.

CHARLES A. DeFAZIO

Age 69, of Florida, died peacefully Wednesday February 3, 2016. He was born November 25, 1946 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Angelo DeFazio and Frances (Castronova) DeFazio residing at St. John's Home in Rochester. 

Chuck was raised in Batavia and graduated from Batavia High School, and he served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He studied Radiological Health technology in Ocala, FL and worked as a Radiation Protection Technician in the Nuclear Power Industry for over 30 years. Chuck was an avid outdoorsman, especially hunting and fishing which sparked his passion for being out on the open water. Always with a song in mind, Chuck was a well known karaoke singer and Frank Sinatra impersonator who often sang at the Valhalla Inn. He will be remembered for his "big heart" and larger than life personality, he will be truly missed by his family. 

Surviving along with his mother are his siblings, MaryAnn (Joseph) Refici of Rochester, Thomas DeFazio of FL and Jean (Scott Brown) Peca of Batavia; nephews, David (Loren) Refici, Joseph Refici; nieces, Jill (John) Kratz and Jaime Peca; great nieces and nephews, Kaylie, Kaitlin & Colin Kratz, Giada Peca, Trevor, Nathan & Zane Refici.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

 

There is no prior visitation, a Celebration of Chuck's Life will take place this summer in Batavia at a time and place to be announced. He will be entombed in the Monsignor Francis L. Schwartz Mausoleum at St. Joseph's Cemetery and in lieu of flowers memorials in his memory are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Joseph F. Kowalczyk, 93 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Thursday (February 18, 2016) at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia.

He was born May 4, 1922 in Batavia, a son of the late Aleksander and Wiktoria Kowalczyk.

Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served on the troop transport U.S.S. Queens, carrying troops to the Philippines, Iwo Jima and then into Japan after the peace treaty was signed. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

After returning home, he worked at Massey- Harris and then moved on to GTE Sylvania, working 25 years prior to his retirement. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing on his boat with his nieces and nephews on Silver Lake and Lake Ontario. A few fishing trips to Canada with his friend Matty Wojtczak were among his fondest memories. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his willingness to help all and his gentle sweet sense of humor. 
He was a member of the Town of Batavia Fire Department, Polish Falcons, Veness Strollo Post 1602 VFW and Ascension Parish.

He was the brother of the late Adam, John, Edward and Stanley Kowalczyk.

Survivors include 9 nieces and nephews, Richard Kowalczyk, Anne Gales, David Kowalczyk, Judith Ellis, Ronald Kowalczyk, John Kowalczyk, Ed Kowalcyk, Julieann Homsy and Christina Kowalcyk. Also survived by 9 great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.

LeRoy / Stafford ~ Grace W. Cooper, age 91, of E. Bethany-LeRoy Road, passed away Friday morning (Feb. 19, 2016) at United Memorial Medical Center.

    

Mrs. Cooper was born November 14, 1924 in York, N.Y., a daughter of the late Lester and Edith Doane Ingalls.

     She will be remembered as the loving and devoted matriarch of her family.  Her grandchildren were her inspiration. She loved to go camping with them and watch her grandsons race.  She was a devoted member of the LeRoy United Methodist Church, worked at the LeRoy School in the laundry dept. and was the bookkeeper for Cooper Collision. Aside from her family, she enjoyed quilting, embroidery and working in her rose gardens.

     She is survived by her son, Ricky (Laurie) Cooper of Stafford; grandchildren, Denny (Shannon) Yauchzee, Ricky (Kelly) Cooper, Amy Cooper, Abbey (Dave) Cooper Wilson, Katie Bogan, Larry (Sarah) McLaughlin, Luke Yauchzee and Gavin Yauchzee; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Tommy and Scott Cooper, Hanna, Brooklyn and Bailey Wilson, Taylor (Chris Parker) Yauchzee  and Cole Yauchzee, Will and Jonathan Bogan; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe, Xander and Marley Parker; sister-in-law and brother -in-law, Betty (Connie) Snyder of LeRoy, sister-in-law, Janice Cooper of LeRoy, along with several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Oliver P. Cooper Jr. in 2014, her daughter, Linda Yauchzee and 5 siblings.

  Edward J. Smith II, age 74, of Perry passed away on Wednesday February 17, 2016 peacefully at his home.  Edward was born in Philadelphia, PA, on February 4, 1942 a son of the late Edward J. Smith Sr. and Madeline (Murphy) Smith-Dieterle.  Along with his parents he is preceded in death by a son, Edward Smith III, a sister Kathleen Joslyn and brothers, Wayne and George Smith.

Ed was a graduate of Perry Central School. He worked many years for Star Market, starting out in Perry and eventually in Brockport where he was the store manager. He retired from Sewer Specialty Services Co., Inc. in Leicester. He was a member of the Perry VFW and Vets Club in Perry. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being out in nature, working in his vegetable and flower gardens, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his companion of over 30 years, Susie Blythe of Warsaw; a son William Smith of Lafayette, CO.; step-children Rhonda Subject of Rochester and Christopher Blythe of Silver Springs, sisters, Cherol (Gene) Shoup, Marge (Richard) Downs and Madeline Smith all of Perry; a grandson Nicholas Subject, along with many nieces, nephews and good friends.

There will be no prior calling hours.  Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Ed will be laid to rest in Elmwood Cemetery in Silver Springs.

  Donald Billings, age 88, of Silver Springs, passed away on Monday February 15, 2016 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.  Donald was born in Perry on July 11, 1927 a son of the late Frank and Clara (Close) Billings. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife Florence and 6 siblings.

Don served with the US Army during World War II. He retired in 1989 from the former Champion Products in Perry after many years of service and was a member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Perry.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years: Lucille, 2 daughters: Linda (Paul) McKenna of West Seneca, Susan (Gary) Lipski of Lewsiville, NC, 6 step-children: Philip (Marylyn) Hewitt of Delevan, Douglas (Sharon) Hewitt of Concord, NC., Ruby Hewitt of Mississauga, CA., Barbara Hewitt of Warsaw, Dale (Mary Jo) Hewitt of Concord, NC., Valerie (James) Qutermous of Castile, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Elba - Genevieve M. Mudrzynski, 90, of Elba, passed away Tuesday, (February 16, 2016) at the Genesee County Nursing Home, in Batavia.

Mrs. Mudrzynski was born January 10, 1926 in Oakfield, a daughter of the late Orin and Mabel (Kingdom) Dutton.

A member of Elba United Methodist Church, she was a member of the Elba Historical Society, Elba Grange and the Home Bureau in Elba.

She enjoyed square dancing with her late husband, Walter and playing bingo.

Mrs. Mudrzynski loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a tremendous affection for animals and especially enjoyed the animals that were brought to the Genesee County Nursing Home during her time there. Mrs. Mudrzynski enjoyed visiting with the staff, other residents and everyone who came to the facility.

Genevieve's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Genesee County Nursing Home for the compassionate care they provided to their mother while she resided at the nursing home.

She is the wife of the late Walter Mudrzynski, who passed away July 25, 1999.

Genevieve is survived by her children, David (Susan) Mudrzynski and Dan (Penny) Mudrzynski both of Elba; her grandchildren, Jeff (Nicole) Mudrzynski of Batavia, Jennifer (Jack) Gang of Williamsville, John (Carrie) Mudrzynski, Bradley (Melissa) Mudrzynski, Brian (Kimberly) Walczak, and Jill Hart all of Elba; great-grandchildren, Mary, John, and Claudia Gang; Daniel, Nathan, Joseph, and Derek Mudrzynski; Brynn, Colton, and Jake Walczak; and Justin Hart; brothers-in-law, Anthony Mudrzynski of Oakfield; Henry (Janet) Mudrzynski of Batavia; and Ralph Bauer of Oakfield.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She is predeceased by her siblings, Bruce, Lloyd, Gilbert and Laverne Dutton and Ruth Gould; and her sisters-in-law, Amelia Brown, Josephine Mudrzynski, Bernice Marble, Helen Bauer, and Helen Mudrzynski.

STEPHANIE R. SAGE

Age 85, of Batavia, died peacefully Saturday February 13, 2016 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. She was born on August 20, 1930 in Oakfield, NY, daughter of the late Frank and Lucy Koziel, also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene Sage in 1986, brothers, Francis, Leo, Louis, Peter and John Koziel; sisters, Rosemary Koziel, Nellie Sumereski, Bertha Yunker and Dorothy Pickard. 

Stephanie was a member of Resurrection Parish and worked at the Shoe Factory, Sylvania and Kodak prior to retirement. She was very proud of her Polish heritage, always up for a good Polka, enjoyed bowling, reading and crafts of any kind. She found great joy in her family, attending reunion's and was always there to lend a helping hand to any family or friend. 

Surviving are her children, Linda Sage of Batavia and Daniel Sage of Batavia; 4 grandchildren, Craig (Rachel) Rozewski of Buffalo and Kristin (John) Colantonio of Batavia, Stacy and Briann Sage both of Batavia; great-grandson Declan Colantonio; her companion of 25 years, Brent Marvin along with many nieces and nephews. 

The family will be present from 9:30 - 11:30am on Wednesday February 17 at the MICHAEL S. Robert S. Dombroski, 76 of East Bethany, passed away peacefully on Monday (February 15, 2016) at his home.

He was born on June 13, 1939 in Batavia, NY, a son of the late Steve and Rose Kosiorek Dombroski. Also predeceased by his sister MaryAnn Orlando.

Bob graduated from Batavia High School in 1957 and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1965. He retired in 1993 from the Batavia City Police Department as a Detective Sargent. He had a great love of the outdoors and spent many hours in the woods hunting deer and turkey with his son and grandsons.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Pann Dombroski, whom he married on June 2, 1962. His daughter, Andrea (Tom) Aldinger of Attica and his son, Stephen (Heidi) Dombroski of Rochester. 4 grandchildren, Tyler and Tristan Aldinger and Sienna and Tenley Dombroski. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Alice (Peter) Dodge of Tennessee and RoseMary Boylan of Rochester. Brother in-law, James Orlando of Tennessee. Brother in-law and sister in-law, David and June Pann of Akron, NY. Nieces and nephews also survive.

  Ronald E. McIntyre, age 69, of Perry, died on Monday February 15, 2016 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw surrounded by his family. He was born in Rochester, New York on June 17, 1946 a son of the late Louis and Thelma (Warner) McIntyre.  Along with his parents he is preceded in death by many siblings.

Ron retired from the Rochester Insulator’s Union Local #26 in Rochester. He enjoyed collecting model trains, spending time at Letchworth State Park, going to the Casino, traveling, camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with his dogs and family.

He is survived by his wife whom he married on June 15, 1965 Ruth Ann (Clovis) McIntyre of Holley, sons: Scott (Colleen) McIntyre of Myrtle Beach, SC., Patrick (Denise) McIntyre of Perry and Ronald McIntyre of Perry Center, sister: Irene (Roger) Case of Rochester, brother: William McIntyre of Warsaw, 4 grandchildren: Marshall (Rachael) Bennett, Jordan (Matt) Morzak, Brooke McIntyre and Justin McIntyre, 2 great granddaughters: Lyla and Gianna Bennett along with many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Mr. Robert E. Perry, of Medina, passed away on February 10, 2016 at his home. 
Mr. Perry was born in Pembroke, New York September 16, 1931, a son of the late Erford and Lorraine (Tyler) Perry. A graduate of Corfu High School, class of 1949, he served in the US Air Force from 1952­1956. On August 23, 1958, he married the former Priscilla Helms. Mr. Perry was employed as a building inspector at the Rochester Psychiatric Center and in construction as a carpenter. He enjoyed doing carpentry work. 

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla, 5 children, Christine (Tim) Herberger, Sharon (William) Reinhold, Teresa (Michael) Bojanowski, Robert (Debra) Perry and Cynthia Miens; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Roger (Linda) Perry of Basom and Roy Perry of Akron; several nieces and nephews.

  Anna M. Foeller of Alexander, passed away Sunday February 14, 2016 at the Teresa House in Geneseo at the age of 102. Anna was born in Buffalo on December 14, 1913 to the late Charles L. and Louise (Tamlin) Armstrong. She is predeceased by her husband Richard Foeller in 1977, grandson David Foeller in 1984 and sister Louise Brickel.

Anna lived in Alexander for many, many years. She retired from the Alexander School District as a part time custodian. Growing up during the Great Depression, she watched as radio evolved into television, the advancement of the automobile and many other inventions throughout her 102 years. She loved jig-saw and crossword puzzles and reading but most of all she loved being with her family, especially all of her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children; Ronald (Melanie) Foeller of Duanesburg, NY, Judith Spaulding of Rochester, NY, Paul (Georgia) Foeller of Dansville, NY, and Gary Foeller of Denver, CO; 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

There will be no prior calling hours and all services will be held privately. She will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica.

Agnes C. Witkouski, 92 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 14, 2016 at United Memorial Medical Center. She was born May 23, 1923 in Medina, to the late Lewis Edward (Mary Ann Fisher) Guzik. She is preceded in death by her husband John Witkowski, brothers Louis, Joseph, Raymond Guzik, Bernard Buttons, sister Barbara Mary Janowski.

Mrs. Witkouski was a longtime member of Resurrection Parish. Agnes was a stay at home mom and an excellent cook. She enjoyed playing cards with the family, watching The Young and the Restless for almost 50 years, and still put jigsaw puzzles together on her kitchen table.

She is survived by her children Jan (Susan) Witkowski of Batavia; Cynthia (Craig) Linderman of Oakfield; Kathleen (Michael) Chimino of Tennessee; brother William Guzik of Knowlesville; sisters-in-law Jane Buttons of North Chili; Grace Guzik of Medina; Tuoi Guzik of Grand Island; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

Joyce K. Fleming, 82 of Bethany Center, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 13, 2016 at Batavia Healthcare Center. She was born September 21, 1933 in Batavia, to the late Norman Koester and Frances (Wicks) Koester. She is preceded in death by her husband Norman E. Fleming.

Mrs. Fleming was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was former Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Bethany, Council Woman, Tri-Town Medical Board in Attica, member of the Hobby Club and Home Bureau. Joyce was an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, baking and was a wonderful grandmother.

She is survived by her children Calvin (Joanne) of Bethany; Paul (Louise) of E. Bethany; Dana (Kathy) Fleming of E. Bethany; grandchildren Matthew (Sarah), Ryan (Jocelyn), Jordan, Kristin, great-grandchildren Liam and Rowan; brothers Norman C. Koester of PA; Kevin (Gervase Wood) Koester of Middlebury; sisters Yvonne (Michael) Muchard of NH; Wanda (Michael) Glazier of Oneida Castle, NY; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
