Ranzenhofer lauds approval of STAMP funding

By Howard B. Owens

Press release:

Empire State Development has approved $46 million in state funding for the WNY STAMP Project. Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer has issued the following statement:

“I laud the Genesee County Economic Development Center and Empire State Development for their most recent actions to bring the WNY STAMP Project to fruition. The unanimous approval of $46 million in state funding paves the way for construction to begin in the fall.

"In 2015, I spearheaded the effort to secure $33 million for the project, and I am pleased that it will soon reach its final destination, the largest economic development project ever in Genesee County. The project is a game changer for our region. Now, we are one step closer to creating at least 600 new, full-time jobs for residents of Genesee County.”

Did I miss something when reading all of the articles about the STAMP project? Is it a prerequisite of employment at STAMP that you must be a Genesee County resident?

Well, John.

I know that the post was said to be a press release by a NY politician. And, I (believe) politicians, far too often, tend to construct such press releases in a way to pander to their constituency.

As THAT press release is written, it could be taken different ways. It could be, as I asked, to mean that the 600 (STAMP) full-time jobs were for Genesee County residents.

Or, it could mean that the mere presence of STAMP would (most likely) create "at least" 600 full-time jobs for residents, by the need for supporting "industry" (like, possibly, gas stations, eateries, etc.).

It also could just be what I would call a semi-poorly written press release (which is my guess). I believe that the senator "meant" that it would provide those jobs for Genesee County area residents.

As it's written by a politician, to me, it's anybody's guess as to what it actually means.

Oh, yeah. You can probably throw the word sarcasm somewhere in my comment, too.

Why no mention of 1366 Technologies? What happened to the May, 2014 SPIN of as many as 10,000 new jobs?? http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/money/business/2014/05/02/sci… How much infrastructure repair and maintenance would $46 million bring Genesee County???

Howard Decker, a Rochester-based architect and urban designer, said STAMP will repeat old mistakes and cause "enormous economic problems." He said it's a waste of tax money to make things in new places while we can just as easily build them in places where the infrastructure already exists."

Obviously the illumined folks at GCEDC and ESD don't want to heed any input from conservative thought and spending.

NYS gets the rap for 'worst state in the union' as far as taxes and economic outlook... http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/new-york-economic-outlook-wors… Yet, it looks like Genesee County and our NYS Legislators are determined to contribute to that disgraceful statistic.
