Person shot in area of Watson and Evans, Batavia
One person is in surgery at ECMC and three other people are being detained following a shooting near Watson and Evans streets, City of Batavia, shortly after 4:30 p.m.
Chief Shawn Heubusch said one of the three people detained is a possible suspect and the other two potential witnesses.
The victim was shot in the wrist and belly. The victim was flown by Mercy Flight to ECMC.
The three people of interest reportedly fled to a house on Maple Street, which was surrounded by police and the three eventually surrendered.
Police were initially dispatched to a report of several people fighting on Thorpe Street. When they arrived on scene, officers learned of a shooting victim in a nearby house who was seeking medical treatment. Mercy EMS was called to the scene.
Heubusch said more information will be released when it becomes available.
Every time someone farts you post it immediately and update later if need be. Then a real story happens at 4:30 but you posted nothing about a shooting or mercy flight being called in for 2 hours.
It has something to do with who farted Alvin, this place took a considerable nose dive once the big money started rolling in. I remember a time practically everything was "news-worthy", now the priority list seems to depend on how much cash flow the "news" will generate.
I was at the Ways and Means Committee meeting and Billie was at the eye doctor. If the money was rolling in, we could afford to hire somebody to help us regularly with breaking news. Don't mistake a lot of ads for a lot of money. Our rates are about 1/5 of what a print publication charges. Money has always been and continues to be a struggle. Yet, we carry on. Our level of coverage hasn't changed in eight years (even eight years ago, there would be times we'd miss calls. It happens).
The last time there was a shooting in the city, less than a year ago, we beat all competition on breaking the story by hours, and Billie and I were in Rochester at the time.
This is still a small operation and yet we often beat our primary competition, which has a staff five or six times our size.
