Today's Poll: Should Congress investigate sexual misconduct complaints against Donald Trump?

By Howard B. Owens
jeff saquella

ya and lets investigate jfk's sexual misconduct affairs with marilyn monroe....and clintons affairs with monica....and probably every other presidents affairs. leave the guy alone and let him do his job

I seem to remember congress investigating Clinton, and every Republican at the time chomping at the bit for it to happen. Is leaving the president alone to do his job a new thing or something?

As far as his job, I'm not sure if "being an internet troll" is part of his constitutional responsibilities or not. That might be his only actual accomplishment at this point, and having a massive line of credible people showing how screwed up he is isn't going to help him do the job any better.

He's a guy who's burning all his political capital defending himself from his past and current actions, and everybody could see that happening 200 miles away.

I didn't realize getting elected voided any previous immoral or criminal actions.

I'm sure the Clinton's would agree with you there, not many others would though.

# 1, nice try at deflection..... had to dig deep to get jfk.... the poll is asking about the current president mr trump. not jfk, not the Clintons nor any other presidents not even mr Obama.

Amazing how dumbed down the segment of Americans are that think an elected official's personal life prior to when they ran and became elected, is important... or for that matter, any of their business. If it happens during the run and/or being seated, that's a whole different thing. It then is a violation of the moral and ethical responsibility that accompanies the position of public service.

BTW, Pres Clinton was proven to have involved in such impropriety while being seated as Pres. He was impeached, and then continued on... nothing happened. What a waste of time AND MONEY.

Anyone who believes that Trump is in trouble of loosing his job, and is spending all his time rebutting the detractors are deceiving themselves. While all the talking airheads waste day after day bashing Trump and spreading fake news, Trump is getting things accomplished almost daily. I don't agree with all of the actions, but the long term results are yet to be realized.

How was it “dealt with in the election,” Huckabee-Sanders? There was no investigation, no witness testimony, nothing but Trump calling all the women liars. That’s not dealing with it. Maybe in 1972; not 2017.

Trump also said he’d be suing all of them. How are those lawsuits going? In fact, he’s the one currently being sued for defamation by Summer Zervos. Seems to me an investigation would only help him if he’s innocent.

Brian, you don’t think it’s important that the POTUS has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women? You consider this his “personal life” and none of our business?

I say let a Congressional investigation exonerate him, if the women are all liars and he has nothing to hide. Should be a win for him, right?

Julie, I think the point here is that the public knew about the claims against Trump before the election, and he won the office. The same for Bill Clinton. Clinton was not only accused of harassment, but Rape. And he was elected twice. The difference was that Clinton got caught in an inappropriate act while in office (and in the White House).

Others right now, like Al Franken were only discovered after they were elected and the public did not know (or the vast majority of them did not)..

I'm in parens (like this)

1. Supreme Court Judge Gorsuch - Meh….we’ll see how he works out. (I like Gorsuch)
2. Pulled out of the lopsided Paris accord – Asinine decision, NOT lopsided...clean water and air aren’t important? (Dumb to pull out)
3. He took us out of TPP - Yeah…let’s let China dominate world trade (Hurts agriculture; it's going to be hard to get bilateral deals; helps China; if TPP falls apart, weakens jobs an environmental protections in foreign companies that U.S. companies already abide in)
4. Illegal immigration is now down 70%( the lowest in 17 years) - Guess we don’t need the wall then (most of that was in 2014 and has nothing to do with Obama or Trump but our weakened job market at the time and better opportunities in Mexico)
5. Consumer confidence highest since 2000 at index 125.6 - Thanks Obama (Thanks Janet Yellen)
6. Mortgage applications for new homes rise to a seven year high - See above (see above)
7. Arranged from 7% to 24% Tariff on lumber from Canada – credit where credit is due (Yay, higher housing and furniture prices for U.S. consumers; less money to spend on other products and services (tariffs are never good))
8. Bids for border wall are well underway - Colossal waste of money….ain’t gonna happen. See #4 (waste of money)

12. Allowing VA to terminate bad employees – common sense (waiting to see how this shakes out)
13. Allowing private healthcare choices for veterans – See #12 (no opinion)
14. More than 600,000. Jobs created – Thanks Obama (fewer than Obama in same time frame in last year, and thanks Janet Yellen, not Obama)
15. Median household income at a 7 year high – It’s gone up every year since 2012, Thanks Obama (the 4.1 percent is 2015 to 2016, so whoever gets credit, it happened before Jan. 20, 2017)
16. The Stock Market is at the highest ever in its history – Thanks Obama (driven mostly by foreign investment thanks to trade deficits (which Trump thinks he and and should eliminate)

27. Signed 41 bills to date – “bills” (do nothing fluff)
28. Created a commission on child trafficking – for SHOW. NOTHING has been accomplished (anybody can create a commission)
29. Created a commission on voter fraud – don’t get me started. Complete political to try and disprove the fact that he LOST the popular vote by 3 million votes (what voter fraud, unless you're talking about GOP voter surpression (which I'm not as convinced as Dems that it's a real problem, but if there is a problem with voting, that's it))
30. Created a commission for opioids addiction – Just today, SHS was asked a question in the press briefing about this. Her usual blah, blah answer. Bottom line, even though trump said it was a ‘National Emergency”, NOTHING has been done. (far short of what he promised to do)
31. Giving power to states to drug test unemployment recipients – didn’t know he had to GIVE the states that power (10th Amendment) (To what end? Meaningless)

38. Order to stop crime against law enforcement - ??? (yeah, uh?)
39. End of DAPA program – Yup….the whiter we are, the better he likes it. (Not an accomplishment to be proud of)
40. Stopped companies from moving out of America – Oh you mean like that Carrier plant in Indiana??? (What, I thought we were against picking winners and losers and giving subsidies to favored companies ????)
41. Promoted businesses to create American Jobs – blah, blah, blah. (with zero jobs created)
42. Encouraged country to once again – ‘Buy American and hire American’ – see #41 (how's this an accomplisment. If I say, "go blow your nose," is that an accomplishment?)
43. Cutting regulations – 2 for every one created – Prove it! (ain't happened)
45. Review of all trade agreements to make sure they are America first (blow up free trade and drive America into a depression)

54. Gas prices lowest in more than 12 years – has nothing to do with trump. Market forces….look what happened after the hurricane in Texas (way down before he took office; because of fracking and other technology improvements making gas and oil that was once unreachable now viable -- increase supply, hold demand, prices go down ... econ 101)
55. Signed An Executive Order To Promote Energy Independence and Economic Growth – loves executive orders. (empy words ... because of fracking and rise of alternative energy, we already generate most energy used domestically)
56. Has already accomplished more to stop government interference into people’s lives than any President in the history of America – Bull$hit, how do you prove that?? (I see no evidence of that)

Breaking news from the Hill today. They are reporting Lisa Bloom, attorney for two of President's Trump's accusers, worked to get cash payoffs for these women's testimony. She was to get a 33% cut and had the cost up to $750,000.00 just before the election.
I've heard it said, "What do these women have to gain by coming forward. Other have said, "Why now, why just before an election?" Perhaps a full investigation will tell us.

Brian, so you lose on facts and make up new fantasies to feed your ad hominem retort.

Rich, nothing in the coverage indicates a payoff nor that anything the women claim is repudiated.

Howard, I never said there was a payoff. That may or not come out as times go by. The appearance of impropriety by Lisa Bloom calls into question and casts a shadow on the accuser's veracity, repudiated or otherwise.

Brian, I sleep just fine.
It's when I wake up and realize that trump is still president that my sadness returns.
I'm sensing that my feelings will soon be on the bright side however as it would appear that Mueller is closing in.
Wait for it::::cue the "Mueller's investigation is corrupt" comments.
Hmmm.....I doubt it. If you plan to use the "but the texts from the agents" defense, think first.
A) this is still America and FBI agents (being Americans) are still entitled to their own opinions. The FBI does not control their thoughts. The use of FBI issued phones to send those texts was not bright, but what's done is done. What they did was NOT ILLEGAL.
B) It is interesting that the release of those texts (exclusively to Faux "News") was NOT AUTHORIZED. The republicans on the House Judiciary committee took advantage of that little indiscretion to grill poor Rob Rosenstein who had to sit there and listen to A-holes like Steve King, Louie Gohmert, loudmouth Jim Jordan and Trey Gowdy bloviate about what a bad guy Robert Muller was. All of this due to an unauthorized (illegal) release of information. I wonder if they will call for an investigation of that??? # doubtful
For the record, NONE of them would amount to a pimple on Muller's heroic a$$

Dec 16, 2017, 7:30am Permalink
Howard B. Owens

Rich, I don’t see any impropriety. I see an top attorney engaging in standard practice for pro bono cases. I see those who don’t want to to believe the allegations making a mountain from a molehill. I see nothing that casts any sort of shadow or doubt on the accusations, especially when stacked up against Trumps own admissions and obvious lies.

Howard, do you mean a Mountain Out of a Mole Hole regarding what we now know as the bought and paid for $12 million dossier crafted during the 2016 presidential race to smear President Trump? There were some smart lawyers involved in that too. It didn't work as planned.

Dec 16, 2017, 2:13pm Permalink

Yes, then taken over by the left wing progressives in DNC at the behest of Hillary. The same one Mueller may have used to get his ball rolling for his investigation. It is time for a Special Prosecutor looking into that, and these so-called Conservatives, and others regardless of party affiliation.

Rich: The “cost” of the “payoff”? LMAO

Trump “smears” himself every day. He is a disgusting pig. You obviously know nothing about the dossier; much of it has been confirmed. Robert Mueller’s investigation is NOT based on the dossier. It doesn’t need to be. Are you unaware of two indictments and two plea deals? Flynn was ready to sing like a birdie months ago, and he has. Mueller is a highly respected prosecutor. Unlike Trump, Mueller knows what he’s doing.

You’ve crammed lots of Faux/Bannon conspiracy theories into one post. Better shine up that tinfoil.

John: “Julie, I think the point here is that the public knew about the claims against Trump before the election, and he won the office.”

Yes, that’s why I referred to you as Huckabee Sanders. That’s the White House spin. “They’re all liars,” is NOT dealing with it.

The accusations against Al Franken were from before he was in office. He was railroaded. I’m still disgusted and pissed off about that.

Dec 16, 2017, 5:38pm Permalink
Howard B. Owens

What got the ball rolling in Muller's investigation was Manafort and Flynn, not the dossier, and now both those men have been indicted.

I know many people who would LOVE for a special prosecutor to look into the Trump dossier, and none of them support Trump. Any investigation into its origins and distribution would also necessitate also confirming its veracity. As a Trump supporter, are you sure you want that?
