BEATRICE "BEA" (FRIEDAY) McMANIS

Age 73, of Batavia, died peacefully Thursday November 24, 2016 at the Batavia Health Care Center. She was born December 18, 1942 in Batavia, NY a daughter of the late Ralph and Angeline (LaRussa) Frieday also preceded in death by sister, Marilyn Geandreu. 

Bea was a moderator for many years working for Live World based in San Jose, CA; locally she moderated, Batavia Neighborhood Watch now known as Bea's-Town Batavia Neighborhood Watch, in her memory and a frequent contributor to the Daily News and Batavian. She was a board of elections volunteer, history buff, avid card player, Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed attending baseball games. She had an "extreme" love of coffee and was a Facebook "fanatic" who was always the first to "like" a post. 

Surviving are her loving children, John "J.D." (Deb) McManis of Alaska, Susan Kennelly of Batavia, Eric McManis of Florida, William McManis of MI and James (Jennifer) McManis of Caledonia; sisters, Judy (Gary Donsky) Guminski of Honeoye and Carol (David) Wilks of VA; brother-in-law, Pete Geandreu of Batavia; grandchildren, Tylor, Scotty, Angel, Troy, Mike, Billy, Riley, Doug, Taylor, Alicia, Cameron, TJ,  Brian, Sean & Suzanne, 6 great-grandchildren along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Thomas Westermeier

Westermeier-Thomas R., 56 of Darien Center, NY passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the Batavia Health Care Center. He was born at Genesee Memorial Hospital in Batavia on June 30, 1960, the son of Robert R. and Shirley M. Westermeier. Tom graduated from Alexander Central School and majored in math at Brockport State College. He was a self-employed painter and proud to have learned his trade from his grandfather, Norman A. Marquardt. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Richard. He will be sadly missed by his loving son Eric, sister Anne and long-time companion Darlene Westermeier. He leaves behind nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was "Grampa" to Cody, Lance, Jada and Mason. Paul (Carla) and Barbara Westermeier were also his siblings. There will be no calling hours or services. A light supper will be held at the Attica Golf Club on Thursday, December 8, 2016, from 4-6 pm for those who wish to express condolences to Eric and share memories of Tom. Charles P. Longhany

Stafford ~ Charles P. Longhany, age 83, of Bater Road, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, December 2, 2016.

     He was born August 18, 1933 in LeRoy, a son of the late Nicholas P. and Anna M. Stephany Longhani.

     Mr. Longhany will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, who was devoted to his family and his faith.  He was known as a "talker" and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.  His generosity to his family and community was very evident with his involvement in his church, the Knights of Columbus and desire to help his friends.  He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran and retiree of Kodak after 28 years of service.  He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and was very skilled at building things, a trait that he passed on to his family.

     He is survived by his children; Jane (Earl) Bickett of LeRoy, Charles Jr. (Jacquelyn) Longhany of Pavilion, Mary Alwardt of Bennington, Joanna (Randall) Crane of FL, Susan Beaver of Batavia, Patricia (Theodore) Hume of LeRoy and Catherine Longhany of LeRoy; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Beatrice Ferris of Rochester, along with several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     He was predeceased by his wife, Carole Hackett Longhany in 2013, his daughter, Deborah Henkel and his sisters, Joanna Docking, Mary Petrie, Elizabeth Fili and Catherine Fili.

     Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4 ~ 8 P.M. at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Road (Rt. 19), LeRoy.  His Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, St. Peter’s Church, 44 Lake St., LeRoy, followed by interment in St. Francis Cemetery with Military Honors.

     The courtesy of no flowers is requested with memorials suggested to either the American Heart Association or Our Lady of Mercy Parish.

Angelina Morell

Angelina Morell

Bergen/Wolcott - Angelina Morell, 91, of Bergen, formerly of Wolcott, a Supervisor in the Inspection Dept. at Sarah Coventry in Newark prior to her retirement, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

Mrs. Morell was born July 20, 1925 in Rochester, a daughter of the late James and Teresa (Falzalore) Sanzotta.

She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in Wolcott and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, caning, cooking and she loved to take care of people.

She is survived by her husband, Eugene Morell, whom she married February 22, 1946, a daughter, Patricia Mull of Rochester; a daughter-in-law, Marguerite Morell; 4 grandchildren, Angela (Damon) Piletz, Joseph (Marisa) Morell, Jason (Capri) Mull and Sarah (Charles) Johnson; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 

She was the mother of the late Timothy Edwin Morell and sister of the late Nicholas, Dominic and Marion Sanzotta, Julia Ardelio and Jenny Kingsley.

Friends may attend services at 11a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 South Lake St., Bergen.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to 1st Baptist Church, 6025 New Hartford St., Wolcott, NY 14590.  Burial will be in Mt. Carl J. Dominesey

Carl J.  Dominesey of the Town of Sheldon passed away Monday November 28, 2016 at the age of 92.  He was born at his family home in Sheldon, NY.  He is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and (Edna Smith) Dominesey, son Mark Dominesey, brother Norman (Patricia) Dominesey, son-in-law Lawrence A. George, brother-in-law Robert McCormick.

He was the co- owner of D & M Milk Hauling and owner of C. J.  Dominesey Milk Hauling, he also spent his life farming and raised calves and heifers for local farmers. He was a lifelong member of St. Cecilia’s R.C. Church, an active member of the Varysburg Lions Club in which he received a Melvin Jones Lions Club Award, a long standing member of the Sheldon Fire Company, and a past Town of Sheldon Tax collector and Councilman, He enjoyed hunting, fishing, card playing and his younger years bowling.

He was the beloved husband of Marie (Zehler) Dominesey, devoted father of Rebecca A. George, John Dominesey, D. Jeffrey (Barb)  Dominesey, Ella (David) Boxler, and Chuck (Donna) Dominesey; He is also survived by a sister Bernice McCormick, brother Earl (Jean) Dominesey; 18 grandchildren, Jessica (Robert), Tiffany (Adam), Megan (Mathew), Dustin, Laurel (Andrew), Gus, Nicholas, Tyler, Jacob, Tasha (James), Nichole, Katlyn, Warren (Rebecca), Zackary, Hannah, Becca, Brittany (Michael), Brad, and 10 great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday December 4, 2016 from 3 to 6 PM and on Monday December 5, 2016 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main Street Attica, New York 14011. Thomas "Graz" Grazioplene

Thomas "Graz" Grazioplene, 64, died peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday morning of November 30, 2016 in Oakfield, NY.  He was born in Batavia, NY on May 27th, 1952, and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1970. He is predeceased by his father Joseph Grazioplene and his wife Holly (Robinson) Grazioplene.

Tom's strong will, his stubbornness, and the support of his loved ones helped him to bravely fight cancer for over four years, beating the odds again and again. For more 30 years, he worked as an electronics technician, building a loyal clientele. He was an avid lover of the outdoors and gardening.  Tom was a sports enthusiast with his most beloved team the Buffalo Bills.  He shared his love of music with friends and family.  He will be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor, and his loyal friendship. Tom was an amazing son and brother, and he loved his three children with all of his heart.

Tom's loving family includes his fiancée Patty Vargo of Oakfield, NY; his mother Elaine Grazioplene of Churchville, NY; his sisters Liz (Dean) Powley of Spencerport, NY, Mary (Wally) Fleming of Churchville, NY, Christine (Wil) Franz of Buena Vista, CO; his brother James (Ann Marie) Grazioplene of Gainesville, VA; his children, Rachael Grazioplene of New Haven, CT, Jessa (Sam Blankenship) Grazioplene of Albuquerque, NM and Kevin Grazioplene of Oakfield along with several nieces and nephews. His life was also enriched by many loyal friends.

Joanne F. Muller

Joanne F. Muller, 80, of Lancaster, formally of Batavia passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 30, 2016 at the Greenfield Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 18, 1936 in Buffalo to the late Gerald and Mary (Richley) Flaherty.

Joanne was a Professor of Medical Records at Daemen College and a Medical Record Administrator at Strong Memorial in Rochester. She was the past president of the Medical Record Association of NYS, a member of the Batavia School District Board of Education and very active in Zonta Club. Joanne was a long time member of St. Mary’s Church in Batavia.

She is survived by her children; Ellen (Peter) Horn of East Aurora and Michael (Wendy) Muller of Boonville, NY; 5 grandchildren Matthew Muller, Kathleen Muller, Zachary Horn, Julia Muller and Erin Horn.

Ronald J. Mickey

Oakfield - Ronald J. Mickey, 73, of Oakfield, passed away Tuesday, (November 29, 2016) at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, in Rochester.

Mr. Mickey was born October 18, 1943 in Batavia, a son of the late Frank and Frances (Bezon) Mickey.

Ronald was a member of the East Shelby Community Bible Church and a retired milk truck driver having worked for many years for DG Rowcliffe Milk Hauling in Medina. 

He was a model train enthusiast, enjoyed woodworking, reading, and sports; especially the Buffalo Bills and Sabres. 

Mr. Mickey was proud to have constructed his own home and will be remembered for his homemade ice cream.  Most of all, he cherished time spent with his granddaughter, who was his world. 

He is the husband of Carol (Rhodey) Mickey of Oakfield.  The two were married in West Barre on July 8, 1972. 

Surviving along with his wife are his daughters, Sarah (Scott) Sutton of Churchville, Sherri Mickey, and Shelly (Dan) Fenlon both of Rochester; his granddaughter, Mackenzie Sutton; a brother, Frank Mickey of Elba; sisters, Katherine (late Thomas) Putney of Brockport, and Christine Mickey of Elba; a brother-in-law, Ronald Rhodey of Barre; sisters-in-law, Lottie (late Jim) Garland of VA, and Donna Rhodey of Barre.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Charles J. Mogavero

Charles J. Mogavero, 84, of Maricopa AZ, formally of Batavia passed away November 16, 2016 in Chandler, AZ under hospice care following a lengthy illness.

He was born September 23, 1932 in Leroy, NY to Antionette George and Charles Mogavero.  Mr. Mogavero worked construction for many years retiring in 1992.  He also had a garbage disposal company, enjoyed farming and was an avid hunter. 

Charles is survived by his wife, the former Suzanne DiTillio whom he married March 17th, 1990.  Sons; James (Yong), Richard of Batavia NY, Steven (Joanne) of Yulee, Fl, and daughter, Stephanie (David) Choate of Spenceport NY,  sister, Lorraine (Donald)  Kilner of AZ, 12 grandchildren , 7 great grandchildren, step daughters; JoAnne Clemm of AZ, Michelle Lang of NC, and 4 step grandchildren.  He was pre-deceased in death by his first wife Elaine Constantino, son, Charles Jr. and brother Joseph.

LANA R. MOWER

Age 71, of Batavia, died peacefully Monday morning November 28, 2016 at her home under the care of Hospice and her family. She was born August 13, 1945 in Batavia, NY a daughter of the late Lamont and Laura (McCabe) Frens, also preceded in death by siblings, Robert & Eugene Frens.

Mrs. Mower was a Laboratory Technician for many years beginning with Genesee County and finally at Medina Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed painting, gardening, projects around the house and her dogs, McKenzie, Scarlett and Ferguson. Lana's family was her passion, her husband, children and being the wonderful "GMA" to her grandchildren.

Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Curtis Mower of Batavia; Jamie (Ben Lesold) Hageman of Gasport and children, Juliann, Jaina, Sara & Hannah; Cory (Lisa) Mower of Batavia and children, Hannah & Olivia; "adopted son", Kyle Russell; "adoptive daughter", Christine Swan; siblings, Larry, Lindsay and Lance Frens, Pauline Walker along with several nieces and nephews.

Lana's family will be present from 4-6PM on Thursday December 1, 2016 at the MICHAEL S. Sylvia A. Hopfer

Sylvia A. Hopfer, 81, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Saturday November 26, 2016 at the Batavia Health Care Center. She was born on August 13, 1935 in Savannah, GA to the late Virgil Raymond Burdsal and Mamie Ruth (Holder) Mallard.  She is predeceased by her husband Ronald Hopfer; brothers Charles Lee Burdsal and Virgil Burdsal

She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church in Batavia. Sylvia will always be remembered for being a devoted and loving Mother and Grandmother.

Sylvia is survived by her children; Cynthia (Edward) Carroll of Greece, Vicky (Dean) DeVie of Batavia and Russell (Sandra) Hopfer of Pavilion; sister Ruth Krauss of GA; 6 grandchildren Megan and Tommy Carroll, Adam Capizzano, Steffanie (Justin) Murray, Kaitlyn Hopfer and Kyle Hopfer; 2 great grandchildren Gage and Grant Murray along with several nieces and nephews.

Joseph A. Szczesny

Joseph A. Szczesny, 94 of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2016. Born July 4, 1922 in Buffalo, he was the son of Walter and Veronica Pastecki Szczesny. Joseph’s life was centered around his family and his faith.  He was proud of his Polish culture and heritage and enjoyed traveling and gardening. Joseph was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. He retired from the former Doehler-Jarvis Manufacturing Co. in Batavia after 35 years. He was a member of Ascension Parish, the Holy Name Society and the Polish Falcons.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Antoinette “Tosh” Szczesny, who died January 28, 2012, brother, Walter Szczesny sister, Monica Fiorella, brothers-in-law, Nicholas DiFilippo, Joseph Fortunato and Philip Fiorella, and sister-in-law, Rose Szczesny. 

Joseph is survived by his children, Thomas (Frances) Szczesny, Marlboro, N.J., Mary (Van) Rodenhizer of Oakfield, the Reverend Walter J. Szczesny of Lockport, Veronica (Jerzy) Ryszkiewicz, Staten Island, Timothy (Donna) Szczesny, Binghamton and Joseph (Allison) Szczesny of Minot, ME. He leaves behind treasured grandchildren, Spencer (Elana), Alex, Laura and Timothy Szczesny, Kathryn (Christian Guirreri) Rodenhizer, Paula and Thomas Ryszkiewicz. great-granddaughters, Abigail and Sadie Szczesny, sisters, Helen Fortunato and Veronica “Dolly” DiFilippo, both of Batavia and many nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Avenue, Batavia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Walter J. Szczesny, 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Ascension Parish, 15 Sumner Street, Batavia. Interment will follow services in St. Cecelia Cemetery, Oakfield.

JoAnn Leggo

JoAnn Leggo died peacefully with family on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at The Crossroads House from a 5 month struggle with Cancer.  JoAnn was born December 8, 1934 to Roy and Mae Ailene (Denney) Peters in Rochester, New York.   She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Martin B Leggo; two daughters, Jacqueline “Jacky”, husband Ronald “Skip” Smith; Kathleen “Kathi”,  husband Fred Mintz; one son Martin “Joe” (Elan Neal) Leggo. 

JoAnn was “Grandma” to Kyle Pangrazio and wife Jessica, Rebecca “Becki” (Pangrazio) Rodriguez and husband Richard, Joseph A Mintz, Colby Leggo, Justine Baker, Dawn (Rob) Marsceill, Abby (Ryan) Rutherford, Beth (Steve) O’Shea, Cathi (Jason) Zimmer, Derek and Toby Neal.  JoAnn was Great Grandma and affectionately called “GG” to Jo, Hunter, Joseph, Emily, Isabella, Cache, Ava, Cheyenne, Xander, Cooper, Brandon, Ella and Dominic.  Auntie JoAnnie was loved by her niece and family Karen (Jack) Dearing of Florida and her nephew and family Richard (Vicki) Stenner of Arizona.  She had many close friends whose visits, cards, and phone calls meant a lot to her.

Honeoye Falls - Donald W. Klick, 83, of Honeoye Falls, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Schofield Residence in Kenmore.

Mr. Klick was born March 16, 1933 in Honeoye Falls, a son of the late Frederick and Ethel Brown Klick.

Mr. Klick was a longtime dairy and crop farmer in Honeoye Falls. A lover of animals, he had a special passion for walking Mendon Ponds Park as well as walking the back roads of Rush, Mendon and Honeoye Falls with neighborhood friends. He enjoyed being outdoors as he loved the peace and quiet that nature offered to him.

He is survived by his brother, Robert (Margaret) Klick of Bath; several nieces and nephews including Catherine Johnston of Stafford and Anne (Mark) Johnston-Fera of Buffalo; great-nieces and great-nephews including  Dustin Fera of Buffalo and Sarabeth Fera of Los Angeles, California.

He is predeceased by his siblings, Kenneth (Hazel) Klick of Sodus, Harry (Eva) Klick of Arizona, Albert Klick of Rush, Arthur Klick of Honeoye Falls and Edna (Valentine) Frauenhofer of Batavia.

There are no prior visiting hours. His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.  Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Stafford United Methodist Church, 6134 Main Road, Stafford.  He will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Henrietta. In lieu of flowers, contributions for a memorial to Donald for Mendon Ponds Park may be sent to Lamberton Conservatory, 180 Reservoir Avenue, 14620. Donald R. McClurg, 85, of East Bethany passed away on Monday November 21, 2016 at the LeRoy Village Green in where he had been residing. Donald was born in Perry,NY on June 6, 1931 a son of the late Dwight and Ruth (Brown) McClurg. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Joan McClurg who passed away in 2013; 2 daughters Donna McClurg and Debbie Moore; a son Larry McClurg; sisters Barbara Anderson and Lois Taylor and brothers Jack, Larry and Robert McClurg.

Donald owned and operated the former Discount Service Center in Batavia. He was also a truck driver who drove for Tyler’s in Oakfield, DeWitt in Pavilion and Howards Express. He enjoyed collecting toy trucks and tractors.

He is survived by 3 sons; Dennis McClurg of East Bethany, Daniel (Cindy) McClurg of Warsaw, Dean (Laura) McClurg of Warsaw; 3 step-daughters LuAnn George of Ca., Sherrie Klimeck of VA., Kimberly (Michael) Burek of Alexander; a step-son Michael Georgia of VA.; Sisters Betty White of Palm Beach, FL, Virginia (Ed) Culver of Sun City West, AZ., Lynn Wood of Perry;14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00AM Graveside Service will be held on Saturday November 26, 2016 at Glenwood Cemetery in Perry where he will be laid to rest.
