Oakfield - Daniel R. Gilbert, age 47, of Oakfield, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Gilbert was born July 12, 1969 in Batavia, the son of Ronald E. and Wanda L. (Sage) Gilbert of Oakfield.

A 1987 graduate of Oakfield-Alabama Central School, Dan received his undergraduate degree from SUNY Cortland and his masters degree from Canisius College. A member of Padre Pio Parish, he was the longtime coach of the varsity baseball program at Oakfield where he also coached jayvee football, modified basketball and varsity football. Dan also coached his son's little league baseball team and youth football; the Oakfield-Elba Titans.

Dan taught Health and Physical Education in the Oakfield-Alabama School District for 20 years. He loved sports, teaching kids and developed a passion for adaptive physical education for children with special needs. He truly wanted to make a difference in the lives of those he taught and coached.

Above all else, Dan's family mattered most and was the most important thing to him.

Surviving along with his parents are his wife, Susan M. (Szadek) Gilbert, whom he married July 28, 2000; his children, Matthew and Jenna Gilbert, both at home; two sisters, Dawn (Kevin) Fisher and Denise (Darrin) Bull, both of Oakfield; his grandmother, Myrtle Gilbert of Batavia; his mother-in-law, Marion (late Frank) Szadek of Corfu; three nieces;  Erika (Jason) Ranlett, Jessica (Dale) Brumsted and Colleen Fisher; a great-niece, Penelope Ranlett and great-nephew Hunter Brumsted.

There are no prior visiting hours. Dan’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 303 East Main Street, Batavia.  Father Thaddeus Bocianowski, rector of Padre Pio Parish and Pastor Dan Schmidt, lead pastor from Batavia Assembly of God will co-officiate Dan’s Mass. Private burial will be in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Oakfield.

Elvin E. “Gene” Warren, Jr.

Age  63, of Batavia, former owner/operator of Slim Warren Mulch & Topsoil, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, March 1, 2017 under the care of hospice and his family. 

Gene was born April 8, 1953 in Batavia, NY, son of Agnes (Banglesdorf) Warren of Batavia and the late Elvin E. “Slim” Warren, and was a 1971 graduate of Pembroke High School. He was a self-employed custom applicator for ten years and worked as a construction equipment operator for the NYS DOT for 20 years before retiring in 2008. He belonged to St Maximilian Kolbe parish and was a lifelong member of  the Sportsmans Coonhunters Association. He enjoyed hunting, especially with his dogs, fishing, and playing cards with his friends. He was especially proud of his sons and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 

In addition to his mother, Gene is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathryn (Driscoll) Warren of Batavia, sons Mark (Jessica) Warren and Matthew (Maggie) Warren, both of LeRoy, NY, sisters Mary Kay (Frank) Schwerthoffer of Ft Mill, SC and Wendy (Jim) Gerrard of Batavia, mother-in-law Frances Driscoll, sisters-in-law Anne (Charlie) O’Geen, Pat (Jae) Choi, and Peg (John) Steele, brother-in-law  Rick (Jane) Driscoll, grandchildren Lucy, Isaac, Penelope, Patrick and Elliot, along with many nieces and nephews. 

The family will be present on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm at the Michael Tomaszewski Funeral & Cremation Chapel, LLC, 4120 West Main Street, Batavia, NY where prayers will be recited 12 Noon Saturday, March 4th followed by a Mass of  Christian Burial at 12:30 pm at Resurrection Parish (St. Mary’s site) and will be laid to rest in Hillside Cemetery, E. Pembroke.

Michelle A. Cropo, 51 of Oakfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 28, 2017 at her home. She was born January 13, 1966 in Batavia, to Alberta (Dixon) Strauss of Batavia and Carl Cropo.

Michelle worked as a Store Manager at Sugar Creek in Batavia.

She is survived along with her mother by a brother Michael (Ellen) Cropo of Hamlin, two nephews Carl and Alex Cropo; special aunt Margaret (Stephen) Delaney of Hamlin, along with several aunts and uncles.

Oakfield - John W. Mills, 62, of Oakfield, a heavy equipment operator at the Genesee County Highway Dept. in Batavia, prior to his retirement in 2009, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his home.

Mr. Mills was born August 2, 1954 in Batavia, a son of the late George and Pauline (Bridges) Mills.

He enjoyed working on his farm.  

Survivors include his life partner, Carol Wilkosz of Oakfield; 3 brothers, Robert Mills, Olin (Lynne) Mills, and George (Toni) Mills, all of Alabama; several nieces and nephews.  

He is the brother of the late Barbara Kingdom and Joyce Starkweather.

LEONARD A. "JON" JASINSKI, III

Age 49, of Batavia, died Monday afternoon February 27, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born October 19, 1967 in Batavia, NY to Kathleen (Pastecki) Jasinski of Batavia and Leonard A. (Sharon) Jasinski, Jr. of Batavia. He was preceded in death by uncles, David and Walter Jasinski. 

Jon was employed by Brylin Hospital as a Mental Health Technician, he loved his job and the and the many relationships he formed over the years. He was an avid sportsmen that enjoyed the quiet peace of the woods and had the talent to lure in the "Big Buck." 

Surviving along with his parents, is his maternal grandmother, Regina Hovey of Corfu; aunts and uncles, Patricia Epple of Batavia, Kimberly Hovey of Corfu, Julie (Tom) Madden of AL, Mark (Mary Frances) Hovey of LA, Richard (Mary) Jasinski of Elba, Sophie "Bridget" Zeagler of Batavia, Joan Dispenza of Batavia, Thomas (Sue) Jasinski of NC along with many cousins and dear friends. 

Jon's family will be present from 5-8 p.m. Thursday March 2, 2017 at the MICHAEL S. Batavia – Mrs. Frances Scafetta, 93, of Batavia, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Scafetta was born January 27, 1924 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Angelo and Catherine Colantonio Zimarino.

A 1941 graduate of Batavia High School, she was a longtime member of  St. Mary's Church in Batavia. Mrs. Scafetta was a member of the St. Jerome Hospital Guild where she dedicated many hours in the hospital gift shop. She enjoyed taking trips to the casino and baking and  cooking for her family and friends. She was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She worked in the publicity department at Batavia Downs with the late William F. Brown, Jr. for over 30 years. Prior to her time at Batavia Downs, Mrs. Scafetta worked as a ward clerk at the VA Hospital in Batavia

She is survived by her husband, Anthony Scafetta, Jr., whom she married November 15, 1947; her children,  Dennis (Nancy) Scafetta of Penfield, Angela (Bert) Pooler of Amsterdam and Nicholas (Shelly) Scafetta of Conifer, Colorado; four grandchildren, Andrew (Adriana) Scafetta of Arlington, Virginia,  Eric (Rachel) Scafetta of Irondequoit, Shannon (Robert) Schiller of Webster and  Jonathan Fabio of New York City; seven great-grandchildren,  Leo Scafetta,  Anthony, Lucas, Ella and Dylan Scafetta, Ava and Owen Schiller; her-brother-in-law, Charlie Gustaferro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her sister, Carmella "Kay" Gustaferro.

Stafford ~ Deborah S. Cone, age 65, of E. Bethany - LeRoy Road, passed away Monday morning, (February 27, 2017) at Strong Memorial Hospital.

    

She was born December 24, 1951 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of Gloria Cippola Burgess and the late Leon Burgess.

     Family was everything to Debbie, or “Nana”, as she was called by everyone.  She was a longtime Stafford resident and member of the Stafford Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.  She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, watching football, nascar and camping with her family.       

     In addition to her mother, Gloria Burgess, she is survived by her daughters, Lori (Shane) Totten of Stafford and Traci (Tim Wharton) DeWitt of LeRoy; granddaughters, Morgan DeWitt, Allison DeWitt and Ashley Totten; brother, Leon (Anne) Burgess Jr. of Rochester; sister, Gloria Latona (Herb Warters) of Rochester; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steven (Marie) Cone of Stafford; sister-in-law, Sandra Burgess of FL along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

     In addition to her father, Debbie was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Richard A. “Dick” Cone, who passed on Jan. 7, 2017 and her brother, Dennis Burgess.

Douglas F. Reamer, 67, of Batavia passed away on Wednesday February 22, 2017 at the Hildebrandt Hospice Center in Greece. He was born on March 30, 1949 in Batavia to the late Willis and Laura (Cummings) Reamer.

Doug was a United States Army Veteran then was employed for over 40 years at Graham Manufacturing in Batavia. He was a truly devoted husband, father and grandfather that never missed a sporting event or school function that involved his children and more recently his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years Karen (Quagliano) Reamer of Batavia; children Melissa (Ryan) Gaebler, Matthew (Katherine Lefler) Reamer and Danielle (Josiah) Smith; sister Marcia Nesbit; Aunts Lucille Lowden and Joyce Nichols; grandchildren Cameron, Brianna and Gabriel Smith and Alexis Reamer; along with his nephew Clayton Nesbitt.

Kelly McVay Boyce, 55, of Basom passed away on Wednesday February 22, 2017 at Unity Hospital in Rochester. She was born on March 23, 1961 in Batavia to the late Wesley Hollabaugh and Joyce (Rupp) Hollabaugh of Batavia.

In addition to her mother, Kelly is survived by her loving husband; Terry “T.A.” Boyce of Basom; children Jeremy and Eric Boyce both of Alabama and Brittany (Fiancé Stephen Clark) Boyce of Alden; sister Lynne (Billy Haxton) McVay of Batavia; brothers Greg (Carol) McVay of Florida and Seth (Melinda) Hollabaugh of Batavia; 6 grandchildren Zabryna, Mackenzie, Chance, Jada, Isabella and Emerson along with many nieces and nephews.

Kelly will be remembered for her love of animals, crocheting and reading. Above all else she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Apopka, Fla. - Bonnie Jean Marsceill, 73,  passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at her home in Apopka.

Mrs. Marsceill was born March 14, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Minnie Henry.

She is survived by her children, Susan Lockner of Florida, Ricky Marsceill, Joey Marsceill and Sandy Marsceill, all of Batavia; three brothers,  Ron Henry of Rochester,  Kenny Henry of Batavia and Jimmy Henry of Alabama; two sisters, Doris Mayl of Niagara Falls and Jackie Henry of Albion; fourteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Georgia R. Gallo, 90 of Clarence and formerly of Akron, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (February 21, 2017) at the Brothers of Mercy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born February 23, 1926 in Oakfield, NY, a daughter of the late Vincent and Josephine Russo Ficarella.

Georgia was employed as a beautician at the former Statler Hotel in Buffalo and Mennen Medical in Clarence prior to her retirement. She also was a parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church.
 
She was the wife of the late Carl Gallo who died February 8, 1979.

Survivors include her daughter, Lorraine (Larry) Probst of Clarence and son, David J. (Barbara) Gallo of Tonawanda. Also survived by 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Florence Puccio, Lena Massaro, Mildred Caparella and Sam Ficarella.

Sean E.G. Jaggard, 22 of Perry, passed away on February 24, 2017 at Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw. He was born July 15, 1994 in Warsaw to Cathy (Edward) Koziel of Perry and Michael Goeke of Rochester.

Sean attended high school in both Perry and Penfield. He was a true sports fan, having a wealth of knowledge about most sports especially basketball. Sean was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Oklahoma Sooners Fan. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and riding ATV’s. Sean was known to rescue a random sick dog and did so with his dog Bull. He had a big smile and a bigger heart, he’d give you the shirt off his back and that’s how he’ll be remembered.

He is survived by his son Kayden Culverwell of Newfane; siblings Lianne (Michael) Cox of Rochester; Melissa Skinner of Perry; Phillip (Kristen) Chappel of Rochester; Dillon (Christine) Chappel of LeRoy; Rhonda, Justin, David and Josh Goeke, grandparents Harvey (Sheila) Jaggard of Perry; Marie Goeke of NJ; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

G. Joseph “Dula” Mazzarella, 86 of Perry, passed away peacefully at his home on February 24, 2017. He was born in Perry, on August 11, 1930 to the late Joseph (Carmella Catalano) Mazzarella. Mr. Mazzarella is preceded in death by a son Todd Mazzarella and 10 siblings.

Mr. Mazzarella was a United States Air Force Veteran. He taught in the Perry Central Elementary School for 36 years and loved watching the Yellow Jackets, especially basketball and football. Mr. Mazzarella was a huge New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills Fan. He loved spending time on his land, lumbering, cutting wood and using his tractor. He enjoyed time spent on Silver Lake, driving his party boat and was a former Trustee at Silver Lake Institute. Joe enjoyed photography, riding his scooter and was an avid card player. He was proud to be Italian and proud to be from Perry, living there his entire life. His family was everything to him, he called his children “my magnificent 7” and he loved them all dearly.

Paul Mazzarella of Lakeland, FL; Terry (Steve) Pierson of Perry; Tracy (Mark) Calvert of Venice, FL; Tina (Dave) Kramell of Wyoming; Vicki (Rob) Cicero Perry; Trini (Nick) Kuzmicki of Perry; brother Frank Mazzarella of Perry; 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, along with many, many nieces and nephews.

Batavia - Raymond F. Shaut, 56, of Batavia, an employee at Turner Treescape in Batavia, died Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at his home in Batavia.

Mr. Shaut was born December 2, 1960 in Rochester a son of the late Frederick Shaut Sr. and Arleda “Pete” (Lynk) Shaut.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica (Drew) Shaut of LeRoy, 2 grandchildren, Andraes and Carmelo; a brother: T.J. Shaut; a sister: Tammy Samamka and her children, Wayne, Courtney and Kali; and 6 step-siblings.

He was the father of the late Randy Beavers and brother of the late Fred Shaut.

Donald Edward Wagner, 84 of Attica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 22, 2017. Mr. Wagner was born in Milton, Pennsylvania, September 16, 1932. Mr. Wagner was predeceased by his 2 sons, Donald Jr. “Chipper” and Christopher.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Moya nee Hollenbeck, two daughters, Lisa and Laurie, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and his sister Polly in Florida.

A Masonic Service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery followed by a private Celebration of Donald’s life with his immediate family and close friends.
