Collins calls for withholding paychecks until parties can reach compromise on spending bill

By Howard B. Owens

Press release:

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) sent a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives Chief Administrative Officer requesting that his pay be withheld during the lapse in appropriations beginning on Jan. 20 at midnight until an appropriations agreement has taken place.

"In light of the reckless actions by Senate Democrats last night that shut down the government, I have requested my pay be withheld until we come to a solution. Last night, Senator Schumer decided to play political games instead of providing millions of children with health care and paying our troops. I am disgusted with the Schumer Shutdown and will not accept any paycheck until the brave men and women of our military can get theirs."

The military funding should never stop even during a shutdown, and I'm sure that could be arranged if it hasn't already. Essential services should all continue unaffected. What needs to be stopped at once is the payroll of Congressional members, their staff and any other non-essential government workers and services.
And once the children called 'representatives' in Washington DC, can finally do the job they were elected to do, and the government operations resume, then pay and benefits will resume.
NO BACK PAY, NO RETRO, NO UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION. IF THEY DON'T WORK THEY DON'T GET PAID. AND ANY GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE OR AGENCY COMPLICIT IN WITHHOLDING OR TRYING TO WITHHOLD FUNDING TO ESSENTIAL OPERATIONS SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH CONTEMPT AGAINST THE NATION AND IT'S CITIZENS.
