Robert J. Burns

Robert J. Burns, age 93, of Castile passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Wyoming County Skilled Nursing Facility in Warsaw. Robert was born in Warsaw, NY on May 13, 1924 a son of the late John W. (Lydia L. Kohler) Burns. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth who passed away August 10, 2017, siblings; Harold, Ellsworth, Arthur and Mildred Burns and Marian Lane and a son-in-law; Donald Tepley.

He was a graduate of Warsaw High School. Robert worked for various businesses in the area starting out as a crop and dairy farmer in Warsaw, (GLF) the former Agway Petroleum in Perry, owned and operated Burns Petroleum in Perry from the late 1950’s until 1975, Griffith Oil, Kittinger Furniture in Castile, caretaker for Grace Cemetery in Castile and retired from the Village of Castile. He was a former Chairman for the Town of Castile Planning Board. He enjoyed cutting wood, woodworking, reading and hunting.

He is survived by 2 sons; Alan G. (Kathy) Burns, Eddy R. (Joyce) Burns both of Castile; 2 daughters Linda L. Tepley of Ft. Collins, CO., Sandra F. Mandzuk of Barton, NY; 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews.

Gerold O. Fuller

Gerald O. Fuller, age 77, of Gainesville, NY, passed peacefully away on Monday January 15, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.  Gerald was born in Springville, NY on June 13, 1940 a son to the late Wilbur and Thelma (Lingenfelter) Fuller. Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife: Marilyn Who passed away on 2015 and daughter: Lori Stevenson who passed away in 2010.

He was a graduate of Griffith Institute in Springville. He worked at the Wyoming County Highway Department retiring in 2003. After retirement he was a seasonal worker for VanSlyke Farm in Pike and the Town of Castile. Jerry was a lifetime member of the Gainesville Fire Department. He enjoyed puttering around the house and garage fixing things.

He is survived by a daughter; Lisa (Brian) Deel of Conesus; son-in-law Bradley Stevenson of Gainesville; grandson Cody (Kelsey) Stidfole; 2 step-grandchildren Brian and Desiree Deel; 2 great-grandchildren Declan and Kinsley Stidfole; 2 nephews Jeffrey (Teresa) Flint, Douglas (Linda) Flint both of Pike, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Allen "Mac" Mclean Mitchell

Allen "Mac" Mclean Mitchell passed peacefully to the arms of his wife Meredith on January 8, 2018 after a brief illness.  He was born August 30, 1931 in Haverhill, New Hampshire to John David Mitchell and Marion Philbrick. He was joined in marriage to Meredith Dean Newell on September 11, 1953. He was predeceased by his loving wife Meredith Mitchell and a son Allen M. Mitchell Jr.; his sisters Helena and Russell Kelso, Mary and George Frazier, and a brother John and Gertrude Mitchell all of Monroe, New Hampshire, 

He was a farmer for most of his life and was well known for his herdsman skills. He retired from farming and went to work as a custodian for Mary Hitchcock Hospital and Lyndon Institute where he finally retired at the age of 75. He took great pride in any job he held and always gave his absolute best. He was also an avid jokester and most of us have been the target of his spontaneous pranks. He was a dedicated gardener and no weeds were allowed. He also enjoyed woodworking that he did with our mother as a team and together they have given us many gifts to enjoy and remember them by.

He is survived by his daughters Mary E. Mitchell and Katherine "Kim" and Gary Guralny both of Attica, New York and a daughter-in-law Sonja Mitchell of Tonawanda, New York; sister Marion (Victor) Czarnecki of CT; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter, all of whom were greeted and welcomed to the family by his wonderful smile just for them, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Doncia Cliff

Corfu  - Mrs. Doncia Cliff, age 36, of Corfu, manager for McDonald's Restaurant in Akron, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at United Memorial Medical Center, in Batavia.

She was born April 9, 1981 in Rochester, the daughter of Floyd and Robin Mallette Pire of Bergen.

A 1999 graduate of Byron-Bergen High School, Donica enjoyed reading, boating on Silver Lake and loved being with her children.

Surviving along with her parents are her husband, Ken Cliff; her children, Wesley Cliff and Natalie Cliff, both of Corfu; her brother, Elan (Katie Chapell) Pire of Batavia; her grandmother, Katherine Mallette of Webster;  her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Eric (Lesley) Nowakowski of Corfu; along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mildred J. Smith

Mildred J. Smith, 90, of Dale, NY passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018 at the Gulfside Center for Hospice Care in Zephyrhills, Florida. She was born on April 4, 1927 in Attica to the late William and Lucille (Pierce) Mooney. In addition to her parents, Mildred is predeceased by her loving husband; Ross D. Smith who passed away in 2002; brothers Roy, Bill and Kenneth Mooney.

Mildred was a homemaker and member of West Middlebury Baptist Church and the Living Lord Church in Zephyrhills, FL.

She is survived by her children; Sandra (Norman) Caryl and Robert (Kathy) Smith; sister Mary (Paul George) Richley; brothers John Mooney and Thomas (Barb) Mooney; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.

Patricia A. Janes

Patricia A. Janes, 67, of Attica passed away on Saturday January 13, 2018 at Rochester General Hospital. Patricia was born in Bath, NY on February 16, 1950 to the late Clair and Virginia (Meacham) Lane. In addition to her parents, Pat is predeceased by her older brothers; Ronald, Gerald and Roy Lane.

Patricia retired from Attica Correctional Facility as a Head Account Clerk in the business office. In her earlier years when she was still able, she enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Ontario. In later years, Pat enjoyed traveling with her husband Mike to visit relatives in other states. She also enjoyed playing slot machines at Batavia Downs and other casinos, also using her computer at home.

Patricia is survived by her husband; Michael Janes; brother Stephen (Donna) Lane of Attica along with numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

Gary Marr

Gary Marr, 70, of Attica passed away peacefully on January 14, 2018 at the F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. He was born on April 8, 1947 in Ohsweken, Ontario Canada to the late Ernest and Helen (Maracle) Marr. In addition to his parents, Gary is predeceased by his siblings; Bob Marr, Wayne Marr, Gail Douglas, Bev Martin, Wendy Whitlow and Lois Marr.

He is survived by his loving wife; Carol Marr of Attica; children Chris (Michelle) Marr and Joe (Jenna) Marr; siblings Ronnie (Sheila) Marr, Debbie Williams, Terry (Debbie) Marr, Daryl (Patti) Marr and Dale Marr; grandchildren Joshua (Erin) Marr, Misty (Tom Fisher) Marr, Makayla Marr and Trenton Marr; great-grandchildren Skyler and Coletyn Smith.

Naida B. Walko

Churchville - Naida B. Walko, 103, of Churchville, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Aurora House in Spencerport.

Naida was born October 3, 1914 in Milton, NY, a daughter of the late Charles and Carrie (Dimmick) Barss.

A member of the Bergen United Methodist Church, Naida enjoyed traveling and crocheting afghans.  She was a home economics teacher at Guilderland Central School, Guilderland, NY.

Survivors include her children, Michael J. Walko of North Carolina, Steven C. (Ruth) Walko of Ballston Spa and Nancy W. (Steven) Daniels of Churchville; seven grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Naida is the wife of the late Michael Walko, grandmother of the late Jason Walko and sister of the late Alice Stanton, Jenny Blodgett, Irving Barss, Muriel VanAuken, Frederick Barss, Robert Barss and Martha Colinas.

Calling hours are Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen.  Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Bergen United Methodist Church, 27 South Lake Street, Bergen.  Burial will be in the spring in Jonesville Cemetery, Jonesville, NY.

Mr. Willie L. McGill, Jr.

Elba - Mr. McGill was born August 2, 1949 in Eastman, Georgia, a son of the late Willie L. McGill, Sr. and Orgia Wilcox McGill.

A 1968 graduate of Elba Central School, Willie was a longtime manager at Heveron's Towne Manor in Batavia and was best known for his chicken barbecue that was served all throughout Genesee County. Along with his brothers, he would work as a bouncer at the local carnivals during the summer. A member of the First Baptist Church in Elba, Willie was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved cooking, especially more exotic foods and loved all sports and was a great softball player who enjoyed playing in dart tournaments. Willie participated in many body building competitions.

He will be remembered as a genuine person who would give you the shirt off his back, a "gentle giant" and a tremendous brother.

His wife, Ruth McGill passed away on July 11, 1976.

He is survived by his siblings, Hazel (late Robert) Walker of Williamsville, Marcus McGill of Rochester,  Dorsie McGill of North Tonawanda  and Robert (Penny) McGill of Citrus Springs, Florida; seven nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia and on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Elba, 31 South Main Street, Elba. Norman J. Seward

Byron - Norman J. Seward, 80, of Byron, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Norman was born August 10, 1937 in Bergen, a son of the late Wellington and Edith (Scroger) Seward.

Norman served 25 years with the New York Army National Guard and worked construction for National Fuel in Batavia.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Batavia, the NRA and a life member of South Byron Volunteer Fire Company, Inc.

He is survived by his wife, Marian (Heywood) Seward of Byron; two daughters, Sandra (David) Hofert of Batavia and Laura (Neil) Marzolf of Darien; three grandchildren, Kayleen Hofert and Grace and Carson Marzolf; three brothers,  Myron (late Ethlyn) Seward of Basom, Elton (Jean) Seward of Batavia and Gordon (Delores) Seward of Bergen and nieces and nephews.  

Calling hours are Sunday (January 21st) from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main St., Batavia.  Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (January 22nd) at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 31 Washington Ave., Batavia, where full military honors will be held at the conclusion of the funeral.  Burial will be in Stone Church Cemetery, Bergen.

Michael B. Majors

Michael B. Majors, 59, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018 at Care Partners Hospice and Palliative Care in Asheville, NC. Michael was born on July 31,1958 to the late James R. Majors Sr. of Rochester and the late Claudine V. (Meney) Majors of Batavia.

Michael was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Batavia and during his lifetime was employed in supervisory positions at various businesses throughout Western New York. He was an avid motorcyclist, writer, music lover and collector of memorabilia.

He is survived by his children, Teilia Majors of Clayton NC. and Michael Hixenbaugh of Lockport, NY.;  grandchildren Alexis and Carter Hixenbaugh;  sister, Denise Schaller of Farmington NY.;  brothers James of Baltimore, MD. and Stephen of Takoma Park, MD.;  aunt, Constance Alexander of Batavia; close cousins including Colleen Ware of Oakfield, Sean Alexander of Alexandria, VA. and Susan Wilson-Taylor of Statesville, NC.; along with many other cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces & great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Richard.

The family extends its gratitude to Susan Wilson-Taylor, Amy Connor and Michael’s neighbors and caregivers in Asheville, NC. for surrounding him with care and support.

A private service for family and neighbors was held in Marion, NC. 

Anna R. Lacusky

 Anna R. Lacusky, 97, of Elba passed away peacefully on Sunday January 14, 2018 at Elderwood at Grand Island. She was born on September 30, 1920 in Bowmansville, NY to the late John (Rosalia Pristak) Gontko. She is predeceased by her husband; Frank Lacusky; siblings Albert, Frank Gontko, Frances Olsen, Rose Pahuta and Mary Pahuta.

Anna was a longtime member of St. Padre Pio Parish in Elba. She loved gardening, flowers, sewing, crocheting and knitting. Her family would like to express a sincere Thank You to the staff at Elderwood for taking such great care of Anna.

She is survived by her loving daughter; Linda (Robert) Kopec of North Tonawanda; grandson Scott (Deborah) Kopec, 3 great-granddaughters, Madison, Rebecca and Alyssa Kopec; along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday January 18, 2018 at St. Padre Pio Parish, 65 South Main Street, Elba, NY 14058. Anna will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s cemetery, Batavia.

Rebecca L. Buck

Batavia - Rebecca L. Buck, 64, of Batavia, died Saturday, January 13, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Buck was born January 10, 1954 in Oswego, a daughter of Robert A. and Grace E. (Weichmann) Carlsen, both of Stafford.

She was a lifetime member of the East Bethany Presbyterian Church, enjoyed traveling and especially loved the ocean. She was a graduate of Genesee Hospital School of Nursing and had previously worked at Strong Memorial Hospital, VAMC – Batavia and Medina Memorial.  She retired from Genesee County Home Care.

She is survived by her husband, Michael B.  Buck, whom she married on November 19, 1982; 2 sons, Robert B. (Brittany) Buck of Hendersonville, TN and Ryan (Carley) Buck of Akron, a granddaughter,  Hayden Buck of Hendersonville, TN; her mother-in-law, Carol Buck of LeRoy; a brother: David (Catherine) Carlsen of Pavilion; a sister, Jennifer Carlsen of East Pembroke; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at H.E. Turner & Co, Inc., 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Virginia "Ginny" Plowe

  Virginia 'Ginny' Plowe, 64, of Varysburg passed away suddenly in Holliday TX. She was born on March 23, 1953 to Donald and Betty Toal of Texas. Ginny is predeceased in by her beloved husband, Randy Plowe in 2007. 

Ginny worked for many years at Camp Weona and Camp Wyomoco. She also was involved in the Girl Scouts for over 20 years. She retired from the Attica School District in 2016.  She enjoyed doing needlepoint crafts for her grandchildren. 

Virginia leaves behind her children; Kelly (Alan) Skawienski of FL, Stephanie (Brian) Kubala of Attica, Eric (Julie) Plowe of Warsaw; her siblings Donald (Ruth) Toal of Owego, June Rena of TX., and Cindy Leslie of NV; her grandchildren; Amanda, Elizabeth, Kiele, Darren, Brianne, Emily, Amie, Tyler, and Addyson along with a great granddaughter Sophia

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00AM Memorial Service will be held Friday January 19, 2018 atThe Varysburg Valley Gospel Church 2442 Main Street, Route 20A Varysburg, NY 14167 with a luncheon to follow at the Varysburg Fire Hall. Burial will be held at a later date in the Dale Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Miles

Dorothy M. Miles, 86 of Batavia, passed away peacefully at Premier Genesee Center on January 10, 2018. She was born August 8, 1931 in Savannah, GA to the late Peter (Annie Mae Squires) Brown. She is preceded in death by her husband Steve Miles, sons Michael Brown, Steve Miles Jr., Anthony and Charles Miles, along with a brother Willie Brown.

Mrs. Miles lived her life by faith, she was a minister, helped many people in the church, was an anointed speaker of the Gospel and dedicated her life to the Lord. She authored the book Journey Through the Struggle and enjoyed crocheting. The church and her family were her life, she was an excellent mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her loving children Geraldine Smith of Albion; Mattie Miles, Annie Miles, Loretta Miles all of Rochester; Katherine (Willie Joe) Shannon of LeRoy; Peter (Tracy) Miles of Buffalo; Gladys Miles of Rochester; Margaret Miles of Batavia; Dorothy Ann Miles of Rochester; brother James Brown of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews.
