Batavia - Albert W. Rumsey, Jr., 79, of Batavia, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at United Memorial Medical Center.

He was born March 4, 1938 in Batavia, a son of the late Albert W. Rumsey, Sr. and Pearl V. Schramm Rumsey.

A 1958 graduate of LeRoy Central School, he was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Batavia, life member of Stafford Fire Department, life member and past president of the Stafford Fire Department Exempts. An avid bowler and golfer, he enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

He is survived by his son, Darrow Rumsey of Batavia; his brother, Gerald (Karen) Rumsey of Brush Creek, Tennessee; two sisters, Jo Ann (Bob) Myers of Stafford and Debbie Fox of Batavia; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

There are no prior visiting hours. His memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main Street, Batavia.  He will be laid to rest in Morganville Cemetery. George R Schmidt Jr., 57, if Attica passed away suddenly on May 22, 2017.  He was born on December 20, 1959 in Batavia to the late George R. Schmidt Sr. and Fern (Whitcomb) Schmidt of Attica.

He was a long time resident of Attica, NY and California. He was a graduate of Attica High School and Northwood University of Michigan. George worked for many years as a car salesman for Upstate Chevy in Attica.

Surviving family is his Mother; Fern (Whitcomb) Schmidt of Attica; sisters Brenda (Schmidt) Rosenthal of Florida and Judy (Schmidt) King of Attica; his nieces Shauna (Brian) Marsceill of Elba, Miranda King of Attica, Rachel Werner of Florida and nephews Gary Hancock of Attica and Danny Hancock of Florida; 4 great nieces and 1 great nephew.

Barbara A. Bradt, 81, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Sunday April 9, 2017 at Premier Genesee Nursing Facility in Batavia. She was born in Warsaw on April 24, 1935, the daughter of the late George and Doris (Irish) Motts. Mrs. Bradt is predeceased by her husband Lorenz C. Bradt.

Barbara graduated from Warsaw High School in 1952, Genesee Community College and the SUNY Brockport where she received her Master’s Degree in Education Administration. She was employed at Attica Correctional Facility as a Vocational Secretary and was the first female employee to work in the back of the correctional facility. Barb was promoted to the Mental Health Dept. at Attica before leaving to begin her career at G.C.C. as an Academic Advisor. She was then subsequently promoted to the Supervisor of Inmate Education program. In this position, she supervised the college education program at Attica, Albion and Groveland Correctional Facilities for two years prior to accepting a promotion as the supervisor of Volunteer Service at Wyoming Correctional facility until she retired in 1997. After her retirement from the prison system, Barbara began her volunteer work in the community at many places including disabled clients supervised by the Dept. of Parole Supervision in Batavia, the city’s RAP hotline, All Babies Cherished, Community Action hotline and the Northgate Church.

She is survived by her son; Steven (Mary Jean) Durfee of Bennington, NY; daughter Julie Durfee, Moab, UT; step children Mark (Dawn) Bradt of Attica, Steve (Sandy) Bradt of Nunda, Kevin (Sue) Bradt of Oakfield, Collin (Carol) Bradt of Gilford, NY, Brian (Jollene) Bradt of Batavia, Candice (Steve) Stump of Elmira; sisters Shirley (Fred) Gardner of Warrington, VA, Judy (Frank) Fine of Casselberry, FL, Caroline (Bruce) Lamar of Hollister, MO; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

FRANK J. COPPOLA ~ Batavia

Age 81, died peacefully Friday evening May 26, 2017 at the New York State Veterans Home @ Batavia. He was born April 26, 1936 in Buffalo, NY to the late Sebastia and Domenica (Muscalo) Coppola also preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (Kroldart) on March 20, 2016. 

Frank served honorably as a United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid golfer being a member of Stafford Country Club, Terry Hills Golf Course and Batavia Country Club over the years. As he aged and his health declined Frank enjoyed time spent with his family and his beloved wife. 

Surviving are his children, Mark (Nancy) Coppola of Oswego, Kristen (Donna) Coppola of Pittsburgh, PA, Joseph (Renee) Falkowski of Batavia and Lisa Falkowski of Corfu; 5 grandchildren, Rachel, Heather, Dylan Coppola, Joseph and Faith Falkowski. 

Frank's family will be present from 6-8:00pm on Friday June 2 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC at 4120 W. Main Street Road Batavia, NY 14020, where Funeral Services will begin at 8pm. Harold L. Miles Jr., 59, of Batavia passed away at his home on Friday May 26, 2017. He was born on December 13, 1957 in Batavia to the late Harold L. Miles Sr. and Florence (Lenhard) Miles.

Harold served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He was a HVAC employee at the INS Federal Detention Center in Batavia and was an avid car enthusiast.  Harold will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather and brother.

He is survived by his loving wife; Jessie (Minster) Miles of Batavia; children Talina (Peter) Pahuta of Batavia, Melissa (Vincent) Maurer of Fort Drum and Benjamin Miles of Batavia; sisters Bonnie (Harold) Conrad of Batavia and Linda (Myron) Bobzien of Byron; 5 grandchildren Zachary, Vincent, Ava, Jack and Nicholas along with many nieces and nephews.

DOUGLAS M. BEZON ~ Batavia

Longtime owner/operator of the Sunset Motel died peacefully Friday morning May 26, 2017 at Premier Genesee Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at the age of 73. He was born February 15, 1944 in Batavia, son of the late Joseph A. and Stephania (Mickey) Bezon also preceded in death by brothers, Joseph M. Bezon, Jr.,  Richard Bezon and sister, Monica Bezon-Rice. 

Doug was a US Army Veteran, a member of the Mercedes-Benz Club and enjoyed racing. In his younger years he enjoyed quarter-horses and sky diving, as his health declined he loved car rides and stops at Darien Lake. 

Surviving is his companion, Deborah Murphy of Batavia; brother, Eugene (Susan) Bezon of Elba; sisters-in-law, Edith Bezon of Byron and Joan Bezon of Florida along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and his four legged companions, Brandy & Rosie. 

The family will be present from 2-4 & 6-8pm on Tuesday May 30 at the MICHAEL S. TOMASZEWSKI FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, LLC 4120 West Main Street Road Batavia, New York 14020 where prayers will be recited 9:30am Wednesday May 31 followed by a mass of Christian Burial 10:00am at Ascension Parish; he will be laid to rest with his parents in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Franziska Szafarski, 86, of Darien Center passed away peacefully on Friday May 26, 2017 at Crossroads House in Batavia. She was born in Romania on January 15, 1931 to the late Jan and Marie Lavrincik. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 59 years Jan Szafarski;  brother and sister in law Karol (Dorothy) Lavrincik.

Fran is survived by her nephews; Karol (Debbie) Lavrincik Jr., John (Ann) Lavrincik and Richard (Brenda) Lavrincik; niece Kathyrn (Tom) Lukasik and her loving friends Bernice and David Kopacz.

 Franklin J. Battaglia, 84, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 24, 2017 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born on December 19, 1932 in Batavia to the late Frank and Grace (Scamacca) Battaglia.

Frank served his country proudly with the United States Army. He was a member of the Swift Strike II platoon out of North and South Carolina, Checkmate II in Turkey, the 101^st Airborne Division and the 81 Mortar Men 327^th Infantry. Frank was a member at the VFW and also a Batavia City Councilman. He worked for many years at the NYS Veteran’s Home at Batavia.

He is survived by 5 children; Cheryl (Chris) Houle of Clinton, NY., Deborah (Nick) Kurylo of Fishkill, NY., Carol Battaglia of Medina, Katherine Battaglia of Medina and Frank Battaglia of Cary, NC.; his sister Rosemary Paige of SC.; 6 grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Batavia - Roger A. Loos, 69, of Batavia, facilities manager at the Falleti Ice Arena in Batavia for 22 years, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, in Buffalo.

Mr. Loos was born June 19, 1947 in Lockport, a son of the late Albert and Jennie Sirline Loos.

A member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Roger was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and American Legion Post No. 332. He enjoyed camping, gardening and woodworking. Roger loved being with his family and spending time with his great-grandchildren. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ella Moxham Loos, whom he married October 18, 1969; his children, Shannon Guiste of Batavia, Karen Loos of Marilla,  Michele (Jim) Lucki of Oakfield,  Jeffrey (Linda) Loos of Attica and Stacy Jouppi of Springwater; eleven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norman (Carol) Loos of Lancaster and Linus (fiancée Sue Griffin) Loos of Depew; his sister,  Carolyn (Ken) Barber of Mississippi and several nieces and nephews.

BARBARA B. (SCHUMACHER) STROLLO ~ Batavia

Dear Meema—Born May 17, 1929 in Kitchener, Ontario, daughter of the late Victor and Aileen (Keough) Schumacher. On May 21, 2017, four days after her 88^th birthday, she excused herself from this life. Patsy, her beloved husband for more than a half century, has been sitting in the car for six years, waiting for her to get ready so that he can drive her uptown. He’ll take her to visit all those she loved who have left this world before her, Bobby, Leo & William Schumacher, Frances Cinquino, Marie Racine, Jewell Kipfer, Katherine Schumacher along with her precious granddaughter, Michelle.

Mrs. Strollo was a member of the former St. Anthony's Church, its Altar & Rosary Society and the St. Anthony's Home School Association, as her children grew she spent many years as the "Lunch Lady" at the school.

She was the axis of her family; the single, sturdy point around which they revolved. She was strong enough to hold all together. Now, her family is held together by the memories of her spirit; memories of her genuine laughter when teased by her sons, of her warmth when grandkids melted into her hugs, and of the competitive (even ruthless) card playing and crokinole skills. But the one memory that united all of her family was her joy of cooking. Her love language was food; in every cookie she perfected, every pie she crafted, every ravioli she mastered, love was there, unpretentious and authentic. These memories have sustained the family through the difficulties of the last decade. Now that she has left this world completely, these memories will continue to carry them forward. Surviving are her six loving children, Therese (Len) Hanel of Grand Island, Patrick (Sharon) Strollo of St. Louis, MO, Marie (Stacey) Thompson of Batavia, Tom (Donna) Strollo of Chicago, Mary Ellen (John) Kososki of Spencerport, and David (Judy) Strollo of Peekskill, NY; sister, Pat (William) Wunder of Kitchener; sister-in-law, Lucy Bucciferro of Batavia; brother-in-law, Joseph Cinquino of Batavia, sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews survive.

Ryan D. McDanel, age 34, of Perry, New York, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 15, 2017. Ryan was born in Rochester on February 5, 1983 the son of Jacqueline (Tuttle) McDanel and the late Douglas McDanel. Along with his father Douglas McDanel, who passed away in 2016 he is preceded in death by his daughter; Mallory Ryan McDanel, who passed in 2016 and grandparents; Raymond McDanel and Raymond (Helen) Hyland.

Ryan was a gifted, generous, compassionate man. He was a graduate of Perry Central School Class of 2001. After graduation, Ryan was a foreign exchange student in Finland through the Perry Rotary Club. He received his Bachelors of Art degree in glass blowing from Anderson University in Indiana in 2006. After graduating from Anderson, he traveled to China and South Korea, where he taught English. In 2014, he started his own business, Cooper Ingenuity. He had a knack for making vessels of light by combining steel and handmade paper. Above all forms of art, he especially loved creating large, original metal sculptures. Out of love for his precious daughter, he has made over 300 “Mallory Flowers”. Most recently, he mastered the art of painting. He was a member of the Baptist Church of Perry, where he was involved in working with the youth group. He was also an active and contributing member of the artist community in Wyoming County, including the being the resident artist for Shake on the Lake. He enjoyed working for the Adirondack Trail Crew, hiking, biking, running, skateboarding, and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife Kimmie (Hill) McDanel whom he married on August 13, 2011; his mother Jacqueline McDanel of Perry, 2 sisters: Megan (James) Samaniego of Pomona, CA., Caitlin McDanel of Seattle, WA., his In-laws: Larry and Karlene Hill of Chili, sister-in-law: Kristin (Josh) Campbell of Gates, 2 nieces: Sage Helen Samaniego and Ellie Campbell, nephew: Clayton Campbell, and Grandmother: Ann McDanel, along with several Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends.

Anthony “Tony” Cuttitta, 67, of Attica passed away on Tuesday May 16, 2017 at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.  He was born in Sicily on February 17, 1950 to the late Giovanni and Maria (Ardiri) Cuttitta.  

Tony immigrated to the United States from San Piero Patti, Sicily in 1965. He arrived in NYC, moved to Batavia, NY and then settled in Attica NY in 1972. Tony was an over the road truck driver and a successful restaurant owner for forty five years. Following in his father’s footsteps Tony loved animals and raised goats and sheep, making goat cheese and goat milk fudge. In his spare time he loved to garden. He was admired as a business man, for the love of his family, and for being a loving father, step-father, husband, sibling, friend and Nonno to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife; Heather Cuttitta of Attica; children John (Jennifer) Cuttitta of Lancaster, Anthony (Lisa) Cuttitta Jr. of OH., Nicholas (Carrie Leek) Cuttitta of Lackawanna, Michael Cuttitta of Geneseo, Lexi (John) Bick of Attica and Cody Wilkerson of Attica; siblings Angelo (Mary Lee) Cuttitta of MO., Joseph (Judy) Cuttitta of Attica, Antoinette (Tino) Camuti of Canada and Maria (Chuck) Foley of Batavia; grandchildren Jacob, Samantha, Gianna, Annalisa, and Karleigh along with several nieces and nephews.
