By Billie Owens

A two-car accident with injuries is reported in front of McDonald's restaurant on West Main Street in Batavia.

Town volunteer firefighters and Mercy medics are responding.

UPDATE 3:15 p.m.: The 19-year-old female driver of a sedan was transported to UMMC as a precaution. She was able to walk to the ambulance. She suffered some minor left arm pain, possibly to due to air bag deployment, and a slight chemical burn. She struck a county highway department truck.

UPDATE 3:22 p.m.: Town fire units returning to service.

hard to say -- if the Sheriff's Office puts out an accident report, it will reflect the cause, if known, and I'll report it. Other than that, hard to get that kind of detail.

Mark, the driver was a 19 YO female. Not to be stereotypical but I'm a betting man and would put money on cell phone use involvement.

Yesterday I made several comments about bad drivers in Batavia and how I see young girls driving with their legs crossed or having one foot tucked up under their other leg.

Anyone standing at an intersection can see driver after driver holding the phone to one ear and gesticulating with the other hand while they laugh and talk to whoever is on the other end. I'm not sure where their third hand comes from that's doing the driving.

Of course, young drivers and their cell phones... Today on route 5, in almost the exact same place this accident above occured, was a lady, 50-60 year old I'd say on her cell phone talking.
