winter weather walking in Batavia

posted by Matt Scott in batavia.

I live on the west main street by McDonald's and I have to walk when the snow starts to fly. I am a little upset that the sidewalks have not been cleared down where I live.  The city cleared the sidewalks from the Sport of Kings to the east into downtown, but not to the west.  I have to and I have seen other people walking on the road, because of the sidewalk being waist deep with snow from the past couple storms.  Last year, they were cleared very quickly after a heavy snowfall.   What is the deal????  Also,  I have noticed that the side street sidewalks haven't been cleared either.   I would think that they should be cleared also even though the kids are not in school for the two weeks.

Something to think about!!!!!

Ok Then,  I live in the Batavia Madows apartment complex.  So I don't have to clear the sidewalk that is in front.  The City did come down this far last year and cleared the sidewalks all during the winter months.

So, I think the city should do it again!!!!!!!!!

Aren't home and business owners supposed to clear the walks in front of their homes and businesses?

Yes people should plow their own walks. When the DPW has the time it will plow sidewalks but, it is the owners responsiblity.

Matt, you don’t live in the City of Batavia. The sidewalks you’re talking about are not in the city either. City crews can’t plow Town of Batavia roads or sidewalks at this point. Maybe one day if the public does support consolidation there won’t be confusion as to what municipality does what. All of Batavia will have one government as things should be.

The city of Batavia had a tuff enuff time dealing with the roads let alone sidewalks. They put a travel advisory out but you cannot travel anywhere but with car. Kinda catch-22. Most businesses just close and dont shovel. Batavia City is not all to blame.
