A great local shopping experience!

By Darrick Coleman

I *was* in the market for a new vacuum cleaner after borrowing my friend's Dyson dc17 animal. After doing plenty of research online I decided that that was the vacuum for me-I have a large, shedding black lab.

I started my search online to get an idea of what the vacuums cost. Then I searched for vacuum shops in Batavia. I was shocked that there was a locally owned, independant vacuum shop right in Batavia!

I gave the Corner Vacuum Shop a visit this morning and came out a happy man. I got a factory reconditioned (which saved me about 25%) Dyson dc17-which I was assured is as good as new. The owner of the shop gave me great information about other vacuums and said his shop would take care of the vacuum if I had any problems with it, even beyond the Dyson warranty. He even threw in an extra $20 filter for free!

If you're in the market for a Dyson specifically, or a vacuum in general, stop at the Corner Vacuum Shop before going to Walmart, Target, Sears, etc. You won't be disappointed in the good ole fashioned service/price (the chains don't carry factory reconditioned models).

FYI - I am in no way affiliated with this store-I just wanted to pay them a well deserved compliment!

Great post, Darrick. Most people don't know they can actually SAVE money by shopping locally (rather than Wal-Mart or Target).

But where's the photo to go with the post, Mr. Photographer :).

I purchased a bagged upright from this place NINE years ago. I got it at a very reasonable price because it was reconditioned. Its about time to retire it and I have been checking WalMart, and the other chain stores. The models they have in my price range seem very cheaply made. I am glad someone posted about this because I completely forgot about this business ! My first visit was in 1995 when I needed a replacement part for a friends vacuum. He took me into the back and tested the vacuum. I came back an hour later and vacuum good as new. I paid very little money too !

I also use The Corner Vacuum Shop, and have to, because I was one of the suckers that bought a Kirby about 7 years ago. He is the only one in town, that carries the bags for it. You are always greeted with a smile, and a fair price.

I have a Dyson DC14 and most of my family also owns Dysons. They are expensive but one of the best vacuums on the market. I'm glad to know that I can walk down to the store and get new filters.

My budget doesnt allow for a dyson. Unless its a "diesoon" knock off. I have an old Kirby I think I will take with me and see if he is interested.

Not to take business away from The Corner Vacuum Shop, which I agree is a fabulous store, but it's worth noting for the price conscious, R&D Outlets on Clinton has inexpensive vacuums.

(<i>I am not an employee nor relative nor close personal friend of anyone connected with this business. I have no financial interest other than the deal I got</i>)

I've stopped in Tony's store once before, but just to browse. Then I saw this post today and, since we're in the market for a good vacuum, I took a ride down to the store. Kathy, the saleswoman, was great. She asked what features were important to me, steered me to a machine that perfectly fit the bill, and explained how that model would make things better around the house. After she had pretty much helped me decide on which one to buy, Tony showed up and picked up a brand new version of the demonstration model from another part of the sales floor. He plugged it in and did a test drive, and decided he'd rather assemble another one because something about the first one didn't suit him. He put one together straight out of the box (a definite selling point for me) and further explained how it fit the specs I wanted better than some more expensive models.

It was refreshing to have knowledgeable people who could answer questions with something beyond "Everything we have is on the shelf". And because I believe that "bargain" is retail-ese for "buy again...and again", I was expecting to pay more than a buck-three-eighty. But what I wasn't expecting was that it was still way below the price I had braced myself to pay for a really good machine. It wasn't a demonstration model, a floor model or any other model other than a brand spankin' new model at that price. And, don't get me wrong, he had some amazing prices on rebuilds.

Since this was a Mother's Day present for my wife (yeah, Kathy kinda laughed at that, too, but I know what makes Momma happy), I decided that the Oreck air cleaner might fit the bill as a Father's Day present ("yes, it handles cigar smoke"), and got it at last year's price. So, because of this post, and Tony and Kathy asking what I wanted instead of selling me what they wanted to sell me, I feel like I made a good decision. Hearing the exclamation of discovery earlier and the nearly hour-long test run, I feel confident that when I break out a cigar to test the air cleaner, I'll be sittin' pretty.

And Howie and Darrick, I told Tony that the post was what prompted me to stop by. He said people were already calling him about it. He's not an "Internets" guy, but he appreciated the plug immensely.

What did you buy Russ? With too many dogs and cats and kids, I usually got through 2 to 3 vacuums a year so maybe investing in this Dyson that I am reading so much about would actually save me money in the long run. I think I'll have to take a trip there myself this weekend.

I bought a Synchrony Simplicity. Like you, I got tired of buying department store models that "last forever" but only work worth spit for the first year. A bagless that matches this model for keeping dust in the machine instead of distributing it into the air was too rich for my thin blood. I'll deal with the free bags that Tony threw in.

I am dumping mine for the availability of bags and there is no attatchments. I have low pile rugs and mostly hardwood or linolium ? floors. The built in wand and tools are a MUST especially in a small area and a long haired cat ! I will say that I have been shopping around and my budget will buy a winner.
