Accident at Route 33 and Route 237

By Howard B. Owens

There's an accident at the intersection of Route 33 and Route 237. A witness called in and said it looked pretty serious.  Mercy Flight was on Standby, but has been called off.

UPDATE: There are no further details available. There were injuries.  We will wait for the accident report from the Sheriff's Office before publishing anything further.

The State Police are investigating an accident that occurred only minutes later on Route 5 in Le Roy.  There were minor injuries.  We'll check on the accident report later today or tomorrow morning.

I have never really understood how accidents happen there. People on 237 must misjudge the speed of the cars on 33. It's a wide open intersection with a stop light.

My policy.. when in doubt of the other car's speed.. wait.
Sometimes the car behind me gets irritated, but oh well.

I don't too often cross the 33 on 237, but I drive the 33 all the time and having covered accidents at that intersection before, I always approach it with some caution. If there's another car either direction on 237, I try to be aware and predict what that driver might do. Like you said, it makes no sense that it's a problem intersection, but it appears to be so.
