Collision yesterday at routes 33 and 237 send three people to the hospital

By Howard B. Owens

An accident at the intersection of routes 33 and 237 yesterday at 2 p.m. sent three people to the hospital with minor injuries.

The collision is still under investigation, but the preliminary report states that Karen M. Hanson, 51, of Canandaigua, driving northbound on 237 in a 2002 Audi four-door sedan failed to stop at the posted intersection.

Hanson's vehicle struck a 2009 Ford Suburban driven by Sylvia Lombardo, 74, of Rochester, which was westbound on 33.

Sylvia Lombardo was taken to Park Ridget Hospital in Rochester complaining of whole body pain and with minor bleeding.

Her passenger, Andrew J. Lombardo, 84, suffered a concussion and minor bleeding and was also transported to Park Ridge.

Hanson complained of back pain and was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.

No tickets have been issued yet and the investigation continues.

How has there been no tickets? There is a red blinking light and stop signs on 237 and yellow blink lights on 33, obviously Howard screwed up.

Peter, not to speculate, but it isn't always that clear cut. There could be factors that lead to a variety and variance on charges, if any. To make charges stick, law enforcement officers need to use care -- you wouldn't want your tax dollars wasted on sloppy investigations, would you? And what if the initial report of a non-stop is wrong? I'm just saying ...

Dont forget the insurance companies have a stake in these accidents too. After a serious crash like that you would be suprised what people say or think happened while they are dazed. Witness statements and measurements have to be taken before a full report can be submitted. The CSI show you see on TV is not real its quite fictional when it comes to timelines.

I know that intersection pretty well. Barring a total power outage causing the traffic light to be out, plus vandals having taken the "STOP" signs from the Route 237 portion, the driver on that road failed to obey a traffic device. What's to investigate? As far as a timeline goes, as a point of reference, my oldest son was in an accident in LeRoy last fall. The other driver made an illegal left turn and he broad-sided her vehicle. She was given two tickets on the spot.

Look at that photo and then imagine that Audi was one of the new "green" toy cars the Federal Government will be "encouraging" us to buy. I guarantee the passenger box would not have held up that well. We would be reading about the deceased driver; Karen M. Hanson, 51, from Canandaigua.

Yep,there are usually 2-3 accidents a year at that intersection-just wondering how long before state decides to put up a traffic signal or 4-way stop....too bad people can't pay attention to the task at hand (driving). They put that stupid 4-way stop on Rt.262 after those 2 children were killed because the mother turned left in front of a semi-real PITA for tractor trailers heading west-by time they get up to speed, they need to stop again-I would have rather seen larger stop signs,a flashing red signal, and rumble strips on Byron Rd.I go through that intersection daily, and the people RARELY come to a complete stop there-last week a guy going east on 262 blew right through the stop sign- I never saw brake lights come on in my mirror-good thing nobody else was crossing the intersection at that time....

If it were you involved wouldn't you want it investigated to the fullest extent! If it wasn't you would be the first one to complain to the officers superiors.

There is no stop sign on Route 33 at this intersection for the driver of the Ford Suburban (didn't know there was such a vehicle but that's another matter) to fail to obey.
