Picture: Barn on Horseshoe Lake Road

By Howard B. Owens

I remain fascinated by the old barns of Genesee County. Yesterday, coming back from the incident on Mullen Road, I spotted this one at Horseshoe Lake and Sanders roads in Stafford.

I also turn my head when driving by An old barn.Think of the labor that went Into building these barns.lumber was cut using water to turn the saw blade. No huge equiptment back then as the work was done by hand
Old barns scatter the county In all stages of their lives. some revitalized with modern day materials and others like this one just sitting waiting for Mother Nature to take It Away to that big barn In the sky.
Im guessing this one was built at the turn of the last century.Parts of this roof here are gone and I'll give It another 10 year before It's down to It's knees.
I've gone over several barns with new shingles In the last 20 years. It's so expensive though and most people just let them sit and rot away
