Wal-Mart delays Le Roy opening to 2012

By Howard B. Owens

This is a good news, bad news sort of thing:  The good news, Wal-Mart won't open in Le Roy until 2012. The bad news is, the mega-conglomerate still plans to open.

WBTA spoke with Le Roy Town Supervisor Tim McCulley, who learned of the delay after a conversation with Wal-Mart.

The store was originally slated to open by this Christmas.

Wal-Mart has otherwise cut back on openings during the economic downturn.

Gee, sounds like a good thing to me. Just another big store with empty shelves. WalMart in Batavia is lacking on stock much of the time. No use in opening another one right now if the things that people want aren't there, for weeks at a time.

I can't see the need for another Walmart with the area already saturated with "Marts." I seldom go to a wallymart unless I really have to in a pinch.

As if this thing is needed in Leroy, a population of 7,000 maybe? How many stores will close after Wally World opens in Leroy? Already empty buildings across from Tops plaza. Bet the Save A Lot closes, maybe even Tops will shut their doors. NOT NEEDED!
