Truck stuck under bridge on Cedar Street in Batavia

By Philip Anselmo

We received this image of a truck stuck under an overpass on Cedar Street yesterday evening from one of our readers. The photo was taken by Brandon Fegley from inside a car.

A story this morning on the Daily News site informs us that this incident slowed up traffic on Cedar Street for an hour.

The driver got stuck when he “failed to obey” posted signs stating the bridge’s height, Sgt. Dave Kleinbach said. The 13.6-foot-tall truck attempted to drive under the 12.3-foot-tall bridge, he said.

Police were called to the scene at 12:20 p.m. and remained there for about an hour to close one lane and redirect traffic. The driver was issued a ticket for failing to obey a traffic control device, Kleinbach said.

wow, he put the trailer pretty deep into the bridge. bridge check is as follows - 4 ways on, 1st gear, head out window, look UP! ps - make sure your door is locked or you may get some road rash.

I was on lunch break just down the street at the county park on Cedar st. I heard a loud boom. About a minute later I saw a city police car go by with lights and sirens. I work near this bridge and at least once a year a driver hits the bridge. This driver hit it obviously at a pretty good speed. I don't believe the bridge is in use at all. The only thing I think they use it for is to fine a driver/trucking company once a year!

Don't worry Tom - remember all of that funding for infrastructure on its way? That bridge will probably be good as new and gold-plated sometime in the next 50 years or so. ;)
