I'm only 51 years of age and the last place I'd want to be is a concert with a bunch of drunk, rambunctious snot-nosed punks. Plus I can't take the loud music or sitting on the ground for very long anymore. True,I may be a bit of a curmudgeon. What the hell is a 59 year old man doing there in the first place and then getting into an altercation with an usher? Seems odd.

Just wondering what the consequences are for these kids receiving citations for underage drinking. Do they have to miss the concert? Pay a fine?

Given the long list of names that is published after each concert, I wonder if they just view a citation as part of the cost of attending a concert. The risk of receiving a citation certainly doesn't seem like a deterrent.

Hmm, I was at a Darien Lake concert last week and didn't see a single snot-nosed punk. I also did not need to sit on the ground as there are lovely seats. Perhaps the curmudgeon needs to update his facts/opinions a little :)

Maybe the curmudgeon doesn't need to update his facts?
Maybe there is a place at the concert venue called "the Lawn". Yes there are nice seats as well, however that is a different ticket than the lawn seats. The reason why you probably didn't see any "snot-nosed punks" is because you were in the nice seats Jamie. Most likely the lawn is where the 59 year old gentleman was at when he was involved in his confrontation. Just a guess.

If you feel the urge to sit down at a concert, you are listening to the wrong music. The concert I attended with my children had no arrests, just music fans enjoying the talent being showcased.... Therefore I conclude punk rock is the superior musical genre.

"but fights happen at concerts"

I have been attending concerts since I saw the Byrds perform at SUNY Brockport. I have been on both sides of the stage- audience, sound/lighting technician and producer, involved with crowds numbering from hundreds to thousands. The acts have run the gamut from barbershop to death metal. Even physical thrash band pits do not result in fighting. It is not the concert that induces fighting; it is the alcohol that induces fights- specifically over-indulgence by a few bored attendees with a perverse notion of how to "party." You can say the same for incidents at Bills games.

With notable exceptions, the 1913 debut of Igor Stravinsky's Rites of Spring (Paris wasn't ready for unconventional ballet) and Woodstock 1999 (heat, overwhelmed sanitation facilities, price gouging and poor judgment by the Red Hot Chili Peppers), violence is unusual.

I will concede, however, that Country Western Jamborees have an inordinate number of fights- usually among female attendees, often initiated in the ladies room.

I have attended and also worked hundreds of shows and I have never seen a fight.

I agree with CM, it's not the music that causes it, it's the booze. That and people being dumb.

Jamie,

I will agree with you that Punk is a superior genre.
I've been to many punk shows, many warped tour shows all over the country. It's been my experience at Punk shows, that when fights do break out they are usually stopped quickly by other concert goers.

Punk shows are a lot different than concerts like John Mayer though. There is a lot more crowd participation at punk shows.
