Today's Poll: Should Brett Kavanaugh be confirmed to the Supreme Court?

By Howard B. Owens
Tim Miller

I used to think he should not be confirmed until after the sexual assault accusation was fully investigated.

Then, I saw how he acts while under duress, and how he lies to cover his ass. Not very judicial. Certainly not the type of person I want on the highest court in the land.

(and before anybody goes "but what about Bill Clinton?"... Bill Clinton is not up for the SC... Judge Kavanaugh is.)

I saw a human being fighting for his life in a political circus, and an orchestrated attempt by the Democrats to smear a good man; no different from the Robert Bork hearing, or the Clarence Thomas Hearing. Justice Thomas got it right for his when he said; "This is nothing more than a high tech lynching." I listened to the entire hearing on the radio, and then parts of it on television. What was on the notes that Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson handed to the lawyer of Christine Blasey Ford amid Senate testimony Thursday. This said lawyer was recommended by Senator Dianne Feinstein, who held on the key information until the last minute.

I find it funny that people are more than willing to put an accused sexual assaulter on the SC before it is fully investigated, and the excuse "Feinstein had the information for 6 weeks - let's push this through" being used.

Those same people griping about a couple week delay (regardless of whether Senator Feinstein was in an awkward spot with the accuser requesting anonymity) had absolutely no issues with the previous seat being vacant for almost 14 months.

I find it funny that politics to some people is the equivalent to a football game. You are either for the red guys or the blue guys.

Also, Howard, did you know that Polldaddy has a issue where you can vote many many times with an incognito/private window with most web browsers? Some of these polls just seem to jump by leaps and bounds sometimes.

NO, absolutely NO. I believe Dr. Ford coming forward to telling the truth and to prevent this man entering one of the highest branch of government. I had been able to watch some of the long hours of hearings and as much as his opening statement was heartfelt I don’t believe his testimony was truthful. He wants this job and will lie to get it and the despicable Trump cannot order an FBI investigation on his own. You do not want to hear my comments if he gets this appointment. I know the community has more important things to care about (children & family) but I as an American am not stupid and know what is going on and I need to have my say.

I find it odd that Justice Kavanaugh was investigated six times by the FBI before the Supreme Court hearing without the mere appearance of impropriety until the last hour.

I don't find it odd that Senator Feinstein held onto the accuser's information, saving it, and pretending outrage when they couldn't deny him a vote on the merits of his past decisions.

The Democrats asked for a week dely and they got it. They will demand another, and then another, and after that another; ad nauseam to delay the vote until after the elections.

Justice Kavanaugh deserves an up and down vote. Go on the record Senators and let your vote be your mantra for the November elections, and let the chips fall as they may.

I don't find it odd at all that nothing was found through six investigations. The scope of a person's life is complex and some of these things even people coming forward now might not have found relevant to tell agent before Kavanaugh got in front of the Senate and said so many things they found contradictory.

I don't see how anybody can say they believe Ford, or evan Kavanaugh for that matter. None of us were there and there is no physical or direct evidence. Testimony is perhaps the worst kind of evidence because the human memory is so fallible. In Ford's case, it's full of holes and contradictions. It's hard to say with certainty what happened if anything based solely on her testimony and statements.

Something from the American Conservative:

https://www.theamericanconservative.com/larison/kavanaugh-and-the-rule-…

"When Kavanaugh was nominated, I became aware of some of his bad rulings on 4th Amendment and other issues, but I did not have reason to think he was unfit to serve. The last few weeks and Kavanaugh’s behavior during that time have led me to conclude that he should not be confirmed, and the main reason for that is that he has lied repeatedly under oath. Everyone that watched his testimony on Thursday was witness to it, and the evidence that he lied to the Judiciary Committee many times seems to me to be overwhelming. For the purposes of determining whether he should be a Supreme Court justice, it doesn’t really matter why he lied or what he lied about. The fact that he knowingly gave false statements under oath should disqualify him."

Brian - football game?

I'm against Kavanaugh due to his potentially being a rapist, and then his composure (well - lack thereof) during the hearings. On top of that, his batscat insane "CLINTON CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" remark raises some major questions about his ability to conceive reality.

I was ticked off at the GOP's refusal to even hold hearings on Judge Garland. I was not happy when the GOP placed Judge Gorsuch in that position. However, I don't have to be happy when things are done legally (however unethically or against precedence). Kavanaugh is a different creature, though.

This is not football... This is putting an accused rapist who has shown he can be very unbalance on the SC.

Yes Tim, a football game. That is kind of how it feels to me lately. People play sides for the team only (aka the party) regardless of the smell factor. I probably could have used a better comparison, but I'm fresh out of coffee and bacon right now ;)

It's more basic than that. It's human nature. It's tribalism. Absent our ability to rationally think things through, we divide the world into us vs. them. Yes, we do it with the Bills vs. New England or the Yankees vs. Boston, but in the extreme we use that instinct to demonize the other and rally our tribe together. We all belong to multiple tribes but usually don't consciously think about it. It's easy to get wrapped up into us vs. them.

Studies of partisanship have shown members of both parties have a propensity to see their side as saintly and the other side as pure evil. We don't even make the effort to understand where the other side is coming from, why they view this or that issue as they do. We just ascribe their views to evil motivations and leave it at that.

That's why political parties, and the two-party system is doing increasing damage to our country. We need more diversity in our politics and more tolerance for disagreements and those who disagree with us.

How dare you trump to mock Dr. Jones….you and your rally are despicable…laughing and cheering for him…. Especially the women how would you like to be assaulted or have your daughters assaulted. I have my personal reasons for being so adamant about this appointment not being made. This has gone on long enough…you have allegations against you…bart…you are done with your career. I have been a registered voter since I have been 18 and I have never been so upset over the troubled condition of U.S. and white house. Does anyone else feel this way. I guess being retired has me watching CNN all day long.

Yes The Honorable Judge Kavanaugh should be confirmed.

After last week, I would personally like to thank Diane Fienstein and the rest of the Senate Democrats for the $h!t show they created. On full display for the entire world to see what scum they can be.

It has created a second swell of support for Republicans, not seen since Hillary called candidate Trump supporters Diplorables.

Thank you!

“Supplemental FBI Investigation Executive Summary” as reported by Fox News, and the link:
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/read-the-executive-summary-of-the-fbis…

Background

At the Senate Judiciary Committee’s request, the FBI opened a supplemental background investigation into Judge Kavanaugh. It’s his seventh FBI background investigation in 25 years, going back to 1993. The request was for an investigation into current credible allegations against Judge Kavanaugh.

In the course of its investigation, the FBI decided to reach out to eleven people, ten of whom agreed to be interviewed. The FBI reached out to all witnesses with potential firsthand knowledge of the allegations. The FBI provided to the Senate 12 detailed FD-302 reports summarizing their interviews with the witnesses as well as supporting materials cited by the witnesses during their interviews.

Interview Subjects

The FBI interviewed the following ten individuals:

Ford Allegations
• The three individuals identified by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as having attended the gathering where she was allegedly assaulted.

Mark Judge PJ Smyth Leland Keyser
• Mark Judge
• PJ Smyth
• Leland Keyser
• Two other individuals included on Judge Kavanaugh’s July 1, 1982 calendar entry. Timothy Gaudette Christopher Garrett
• Timothy Gaudette
• Christopher Garrett
• An attorney for one of the witnesses
Ramirez Allegations
• Deborah Ramirez
• Two alleged eyewitnesses named by Deborah Ramirez (a third alleged eyewitness refused to submit to an interview)
• Deborah Ramirez’s close friend from college

Conclusion
The Supplemental Background Investigation confirms what the Senate Judiciary Committee concluded after its investigation: there is no corroboration of the allegations made by Dr. Ford or Ms. Ramirez.

Thanks for sharing that Rich.

After they realized that wasn't working, the Dems moved to " He was a drinker in college ", then when that didn't work, now they are back on to he doesn't have the temperment.

All I have to say........

Is thank you Dems for easily handing us the Senate in November and now we may even keep the House.

He is unworthy of the SC if only for his rant about "Revenge on behalf of the Clintons"...

Anybody who is so batscat unbalanced as to believe there is some great conspiracy on behalf of the Clintons does not have the mental capability to be a Supreme Court Justice.

(Ditto for birthers and truthers)

I for one am completely satisfied with his response to the partisan attack that has grossly tried to destroy this good man.

Im glad that he fought so vigorously to defend his name.

One day this man is going to fight for your rights.

I would actually say that is a shame. I for one, even though I don't agree with your opinion, wouldn't stop voicing (writing) your opinion.

Political discourse is awesome, the sharing of ideas is spectacular!

To your points earlier, I think you miss on the "what". Most of us are hit with "how".

Also.......

You kinda got insulting.......just saying

Linda, don't be run off by a few thumbs down.. We all have a right to our opinions and this is a good place to share them. There are some people here who will try to silence you, don't let them scare ya..........

You: “You kinda got insulting.......just saying”

You again: “I would personally like to thank Diane Fienstein and the rest of the Senate Democrats for the $h!t show they created. On full display for the entire world to see what scum they can be.”

Yeah, how dare SHE be insulting.

You, one more time: “I’m glad that he fought so vigorously to defend his name.”

What fight, where?

If he really wants to fight, then Mr. “I like beer” should accept Michael Avenatti’s suggestion to sue all of his false accusers. Get everything out in the open. Like trump claimed he would do but for some mysterious reason hasn’t. And won’t and never will.

Linda, there are many safe places online to share your feelings and frustrations in an atmosphere of kindness and respect. Please seek them out. Women hardly ever post here anymore.

Who gives a rat’s behind about ridiculous cartoon thumbs up or downs. WTH does that even mean, totally meaningless.

Linda - Your comment, about not ever posting your opinion again, comes as a shock - and, as Mike Nixon said, that's a shame.
While you haven't specifically stated WHY you'll never post again (and, it's really none of our business), you mentioned "much to the delight of all my thumbs down."

I, for one, hope getting "thumbs down" didn't enter into your decision. Good Lord, everyone on here gets "thumbs downs".

In fact, maybe a year ago or so, there was a discussion here in the comment section SPECIFICALLY about getting "thumbs down", and, commenters having different opinions. Someone actually wrote that, because they believed EVERY comment I write is of a negative nature, they were not going to even READ any more comments from me, but, they were going to just automatically hit the "thumbs down" icon. What do I care? I don't. I'm not here for "likes" or "dislikes". I'm here because I have: (A) "links" to the Genesee County area, and, (B) opinions on what's being reported on. If someone doesn't like what I say, tough noogies!
While it's your right to keep your opinions to yourself, I don't understand why anyone would want to do that. Believe it or not, there are times when offering differing opinions makes people take a step back and see things from a different perspective. Sometimes, those people's thoughts change because of what someone else said.

If everyone kept their opinions to themselves, and didn't speak up, we'd all be speaking German, or Japanese, or Greek, or Arabic (or however far back you'd want to go). If it weren't for having a different opinion, the Earth would still be considered flat. Our so-called "leaders" would be "descendants of the gods".

So, Linda. If people's "thumbs down" is your reason for not posting here anymore, please, reconsider.
