Former Batavia resident accused of sexual conduct with a child appears in court

One of the two brothers recently accused of sexually abusing children in multiple jurisdictions over the past three decades appeared in Genesee County Court this afternoon to answer to a felony grand jury indictment.

Sean M. Vickers, 44, of 117 Andes St., Geneva, entered a not guilty plea to single count of a course of sexual conduct against a child in the first degree, a Class B felony.

Vickers is accused of sexual relations with a child while a resident of Batavia more than a decade ago.

According to Batavia PD, after media reports of his arrest, more people came forward accusing either Vickers or his brother of sex-related crimes.

While Sean Vickers, already a registered Level-3 sex offender, has yet been charged with any additional crimes, the FBI arrested David Allen Vickers, 49, of Stanley, and accused him, while working as a truck driver, of transporting a child to New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Canada and engaging in sexual activity.

The two brothers are suspected of sexual activity with children going back 30 years.

Police are asking that anybody that may have children who came into contact with the Vickers or people who are now adults that may have had contact with the Vickers to contact police or the FBI.

Sorry, forgot to include ... bail on Sean is $500K.

His brother is in federal custody and last I heard, no bail.

I really hope that the laws pertaining to pedophiles gets changed:
Personally, I believe that child sexual predators, rapists, wife/child-beaters, and police officers who intentionally abuse power NEED to be euthanized as rapidly as possible. Unfortunately, NYS's preferred method, lethal injection, is way too humane! I think the right choice would be a good old-fashioned stoning!!!

I have been very hesitant to post here and have even stopped reading The Batavian because I didn't want to read what was being said about my 2 brothers.

I am on vacation here in the Batavia area to comfort and help my parents deal with this where I can.

First of all I don't know if they are guilty and don't have an opinion (I try not to think about it). As far as what I have read there is one point I need to make, they say this has been going on for 3 decades which would have you to believe it was 30 years. If it was 30 years that would have made Sean 14 years old and David 19 (I joined the Navy and moved away 31 years ago).

Please remember that people are hurting and suffering on both sides. Imagine if this happened in your family and how your parents or other siblings would suffer.

Don I can sympathize with your plight, but frankly this kind of thing doesnt happen in a vaccum. If indeed it has happened this long someone was hiding or covering for them in their early years. Again you ask for sympathy and understanding and I can grant that to you but it wont curb my opinion or speaking out on what these two did, or how horrible the consequences that their victims endured. If this happened in my family, I'd be beating senseless the child or sibling that did these kind of things. There are very few things that I consider going too far and these crimes are definately it.

Sorry that you and the rest of your family have to suffer for what they did.

The point I was trying to make about the 30 years is that it is not so. The first offense he is reportedly is charged with took place in the late 1990's. They are saying 3 decades to mislead the public, the offenses he is charged with happened in 3 different decades for a total of 15 years.

From what I heard yesterday, the grand jury has thrown out the two top offenses that he was charged with but nowhere is that reported.

They also don't report that the accuser is in prison and has been for over 5 years. He is up for parole in August and is trying to make a deal so he can make parole.

From the conversation in court yesterday, one count was dismissed because it was filed in error -- a duplication of the charge. I didn't report it because it seemed more procedural or clerical than germane to the case.

I confirmed and clarified with DA Lawrence Friedman.

Sean Vickers was indicted on the lone count that was presented to the Grand Jury. No counts were thrown out because no other charges were presented.

What was corrected yesterday was the multiple times Sean Vickers had been finger printed in connection to this case, which would have been a clerical problem with the state's FP database.

There were no additional crimes that he was charged with that have been thrown out or dismissed.

Don, you should have remained hesitant to speak. Your brother Sean is a convicted sex offender, which is a fact. He hurt a child, which was proven in a court of law. I can't think of a better place for a pedophile to be than in jail.
And as far as the 3 decades? that is a pretty silly thing to get upset about. I'd be more upset that my brother is still doing what he was arrested for in the past.

Don....to be honest, it looks like you are continuing to twist the truth a little bit. From Howard's updates what you "heard" wasn't entirely true. If you "heard" it from your brothers I'd consider finding another source as they may not be the most unbiased and reliable sources.

As for Bud's observation the only thing I can say for your comments about your brothers' actions...
"you can polish and decorate a turd all you want, but in the end it's still just a turd."

Sean's first conviction for such crimes that I am aware of was in April of 1990; his victim a 9 y/o boy; now 32. I know this because I am that victim's mom. And had Sean not been allowed to plea bargain from a felony charge to a misdemeanor, things might look alot different today. Very unjust and sad. Ours was not an easy journey- and I have prayed for this day to come.
