Batavia - Rose J. Smith, 91, of Batavia, a secretary at the Genesee County Department of Social Services, prior to her retirement, died Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Batavia Health Care Center.

Mrs. Smith was born July 6, 1924 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Bruno and Mary (Oldkowska) Sulimowicz.

She was a member of St. Cecilia's Church.

She is predeceased by 2 husbands, Frank P. Balonek, Sr. who died in 1969 and Howard J. Smith who died in 2007. 

Survivors include 2 sons, Frank P. (Sue) Balonek, Jr. of Elba and Leonard (Betty) Balonek of Elizabeth City, NC; 4 grandchildren, Valerie (Charles) St. John of Murray, Cynthia Sanfratello of North Chili, Jennifer Balonek and Kathryn Balonek, both of VA; 2 sisters, Lottie Borkowski of Rochester and Florence Salviski of FL; a sister-in-law, Betty Sulim of FL; 6 great-grandchildren Noah and Madelyn St. John, Jon and Leah Sanfratello, Jacob Foster and Jacob Carter; several nieces and nephews.

She is the sister of the late Sofie Matla, John Sulim, Joseph Sulimowicz, Anthony Sulimowicz and Leon Sulim.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Padre Pio Parish, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield, NY 14125.  Private burial will be in St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Oakfield.  Please leave a condolence, share a story or light a candle at www.burdettandsanford.com.
