Richard G. "Dick" Calkins

Batavia ~ Richard G. Calkins, age 85, of Dewey Avenue, passed away Thursday evening (May 19, 2016) at United Memorial Medical Center.

    

 Mr. Calkins was born January 17, 1931 in Batavia, a son of the late Guy and Nettie Gage Calkins.

     Dick, as everyone called him, retired from LeRoy Machine, in later years known as LeRoy Industries, after 42 years of service, and where he had many great friends. He enjoyed camping, and for many years, belonging to the NCHA, the National Campers & Hikers Association.  He also participated  in square dancing with the Batavia Twirlers for many years.  Dick also enjoyed his sports and the 12 years that he and Lois spent their winters in Florida.

     He is survived by his loving wife of 62 1/2 years, Lois Handyside Calkins; his daughters, Susan (Mark) Perovich of Dansville and Karen Mills of Lime Rock; his son, Richard (Dawn) Calkins of Batavia; his brother, Lester Calkins of Rochester, his sister, Brenda Macartney of Rochester, along with many precious grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Hoskins.

     Family and friends are welcome attend Dick's graveside service on Thursday, May 26 at 1:00 P.M. in Machpelah Cemetery in LeRoy.
