James Cavalieri

Batavia - James Cavalieri, 95, of Batavia, died Monday, April 5, 2010at Genesee County Nursing Home. 

Mr. Cavalieri was born September 25, 1914 in Batavia, a son of the late Dominic and Michelina (Amitrano) Cavallaro.

He was an honorable Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and worked for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad for over 40 years. He tended his vegetable garden in the city and it was the envy of all who passed by.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary C. "Conzi" (Longobardi) Cavalieri whom he married December 21, 1946; 3 sons, Dominic (Sharon) Cavalieri of Batavia, Jimmy Cavalieri of TX and Ralph (Barbara) Cavalieri of Batavia; 3 grandchildren, Samantha Marie Cavalieri, Ann Marie (Dwaine) Ashlock and Jennifer Lynn (Robert) Hicks; 2 great-grandchildren, Alexis Marie Ashlock and Dylan Chase Hicks; 4 sister-in-law, Josephine and Barbara Cavalieri. Antoinette Giganti and Marge Bower; 2 brothers in law, Carmen (Lucy) Longobardi and James (Anne) Longobardi; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by his brothers John, Jerry and Louis Cavalieri; step-brothers, Paul, Thomas and Joe Volino and step-sisters, Paula Baron and Rose Barrows.

Friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will follow at 12 p.m. Christian burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads House, P.O. Box 403, Batavia, NY 14021.
