Arnold A. Cone

Stafford - Mr. Arnold A. Cone, 83, of Stafford, owner and proprietor of Arnold A. Cone - General Contractor, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the New York State Veteran's Home in Batavia.

Mr. Cone was born February 22, 1927 in Bethany, a son of the late George and Edith VanZant Cone.

He was a member of East Bethany Presbyterian Church, and over the course of 30 years, he served on the Stafford zoning board of appeals, as Stafford town councilman and as Town Supervisor for Stafford for 30 years. He also served on the Republican Committee as the representative from Stafford. He was also a former member of the Five Point Rod and Gun club.

He was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and camping and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He served with the 16th Infantry Regiment with the United States Army during World War II. He was awarded the Army of Occupational Medal and Word War II Victory Medal.

His wife, Elnora Legg Cone, died on February 22, 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Richard A. (Deborah) Cone and Steven A. (Marie) Cone, both of Stafford, two granddaughters, Lori (Shane) Totten and Traci Cone, both of Stafford; three great-granddaughters, Morgan, Allison and Ashley; a sister-in-law, Joan Cone of Stafford and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 East Main Street, Batavia, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in East Bethany Cemetery.
