Esther Evelyn Phelps Schaal

Oakfield and Winter Haven, FL- Mrs. Esther Evelyn Phelps Schaal, 95, of Oakfield and Winter Haven, FL, a Registered Nurse at the former Genesee Memorial Hospital, in Batavia for 12 years prior to her retirement in 1985, died Thursday, September 23, 2010 while under hospice care in Auburndale, FL.
 

Mrs. Schaal was born May 6, 1915 in Pembroke, NY, the daughter of the late Dennis and Mary (Klotzbach) Phelps.
 

She was a member of Indian Falls United Methodist Church, associate member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Florida since 1985, East Pembroke Grange and was the former secretary of the Genesee County Fair.
 

Her husband, Warren R. Schaal, died August 25, 2004.
 

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie (Lee) Schoenthal of Corfu; 2 sons, Dean (Jane) Schaal of Oakfield and Dale (Mary) Schaal of Winterhaven, FL; a brother, Wayne (Myra) Phelps of Basom; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. 
 

She was the grandmother of the late Cherie Schoenthal and sister of the late Revere Phelps, Maurice Phelps and Virgil Phelps.
 

Friends may call on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, and Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Indian Falls United Methodist Church where services will immediately follow at 3 p.m.  Memorials may be made to Indian Falls United Methodist Church, 7908 Allegany Road, Corfu, NY 14036.  Burial will be in Alabama Cemetery, Alabama, NY.  Condolences may be made at www.bataviafuneralhomes.com
