William A. Rood

William A. Rood, 85, of Batavia died Saturday (September 25, 2010) at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Batavia on December 23, 1924, a son of the late Howard and Loretta Arnold Rood.

Mr. Rood was a self employed carpenter for over 20 years.  He retired from Genesee Community College maintainence department and was a security guard at Genesee County Nursing Home.  He served several times as president and treasurer of the Batavia Radio Control Flying Club of which he was a charter member.  He was a perfectionist with his woodworking and restoring antique cars that he collected.  He served with the US Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre. 

Bill was predeceased by his first wife, Bettie Hume Rood who died on October 22, 2000.

Surviving is his wife, Edith Roche Rood.  Two daughters: Amy Rood of Batavia and Nancy Rood of Avon.  Two grandsons: Vincent and Joseph DiSanto.  A sister, Margot Rood of Phelps, NY.  He was the brother of the late: Lois Sprague, Alvin Rood and Mildred Rood.

There are no calling hours.  Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family with burial in Hillside Cemetery in E. Pembroke.
