MRS. VIRGINIA M. "GINGER" MOONEY

OaKfield - Mrs. Virginia M. Mooney, 78, of Oakfield, switchboard operator at United Memorial Medical Center for 35 years, died Thursday, September 30, 2010 at the New York State Veteran's Home.
 
Mrs. Mooney was born July 28, 1932 in Batavia, a daughter of the late Edward and Merle Roberts Base.
 
A member of St. Padre Pio Parish - St. Cecilia's Worship Site, Mrs. Mooney used to enjoy bowling. Following her retirement from the hospital, she went back to volunteer her time. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always looked forward to planting her flowers around her driveway.
 
Her husband, Ronald J. Mooney, died July 26, 2003.
 
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Mary) MacIntyre of Stafford and Donald "Sam" (Amy) Mooney of Oakfield; three daughters, Terri L. Whiting of Oakfield, Cindy (Dennis) Hunt of Argyle, NY and Shelley Buckley of Glens Falls; two sisters, Marlene (George) Arnold of Batavia and Betty (Don) Currier of Elba; eleven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
 
She is the grandmother of the late Ethan Buckley.
 
There are no prior calling hours. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecilia's Site, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield. Burial will be in St. Cecilia’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Padre Pio Parish, 56 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, New York 14125 or to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway West, Amherst, New York 14228.
