ROBERT J. BARTZ, SR.

Batavia - Mr. Robert J. Bartz, Sr., 89, a retired machinist at Chapin Manufacturing, died October 27, 2010 at the United Memorial Medical Center.

Mr. Bartz was born September 4, 1921 in Stafford, the son of the late John and Flossie Harvey Bartz.

He served as a medic with the 33rd General Hospital Division of the US Army during World War II. At the Memorial Day Parade of 2010 he was one of the three WWII Veterans who marched in the parade.

A self taught carpenter, he enjoyed remodeling and repairing homes. He was a devoted father and grandfather who was involved with all the activities of his family. He attended the First Baptist Church of Batavia.

His wife, Helen Bartz, died 1997. He was the grandfather of the late David Brew and brother of the late James Heale and Albert Bartz.

Survivors include two sons, Robert (Judith) Bartz of Batavia and Larry Bartz of Buffalo; two daughters, Diane (Mark) Keicher of Alexander and Shirley (Robert) Gouger of Batavia; four brothers, John Bartz, Francis (Alice) Bartz, Henry (Jane) Bartz and Harvey (Laurie) Bartz; four sisters, Viola Hale, Elizabeth Heale, Julia Wallace and Bertha Gage; 5 grandchildren, William (Karen) Brew, Daniel Bartz, Kristopher Bartz, Jeffrey (Lindsey) Pursel and Christy Pursel; 3 great-grandchildren, Marc, Dylan and Brandon and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia. Services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, at the First Baptist Church of Batavia. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Burial with military honors will be in Grand View Cemetery.
