Ruth M. (nee VerWeire) Beyer

Bergen - Ruth M. Beyer, 92, of Bergen, passed away Saturday, (February 4, 2017) at Strong Memorial Hospital, in Rochester.

Mrs. Beyer was born June 17, 1924 in Rochester, a daughter of the late Jerome and Mary (VanHake) VerWeire.

She has been a member of St. Brigid’s Church since 1946 and was a member of the Sackett Merrill White Post Ladies Auxiliary, Ladies of Charity at St. Brigid’s, the Knights of St. John #44 Ladies Auxiliary in Rochester, and the Bergen Historical Society. 

Ruth enjoyed golfing, playing cards, traveling, gardening, spending time at her cabin in the Adirondacks as well as time spent with her family. 

She is the wife of the late Bernard J. Beyer.  The two were married on August 24, 1946.  He passed away in 2008. 

Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Tompkins of Hatboro, PA and Barbara Johnston of Bergen; five grandchildren, Richard (Sandy) Tompkins of Hatboro, PA, Timothy (Adrienne) Johnston of Mumford, Rebecca (Scott) Senf of Bergen, Jeffrey (Jillian) Tompkins of Hatboro, PA, and Jason (Kathryn Pluff) Johnston of Bergen; nine great-grandchildren, Owen, Mason, and Colton Tompkins, Lydia and Bryan Johnston, MacKenzie, Olivia, Jackson, and Lincoln Snef; two brothers, Charles (Georgiana) VerWeire, and Robert (Jean) VerWeire both of Spencerport.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Ruth is preceded in death by a brother, Edward (late Loretta) VerWeire.

Friends may call on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 51 South Lake Street, Bergen.  Ruth’s Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, (February 10, 2017) at St. Brigid's Church, 18 Gibson Street, Bergen.  Burial will be in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Bergen.
