MILTON E. HAWKINS

Batavia - Mr. Milton E. Hawkins, 95, who retired from the P.W. Minor Shoe Factory at the age of 83, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at home.

Mr. Hawkins was born September 4, 1915 in Batavia, the son of the late Alfred and Ethel Hermance Hawkins.
 
He served during World War II with the US Army. An avid fisherman and gardener he was a lifetime member of St. James Episcopal Church and its’ choir, a member of Ducks Unlimited, VFW, American Legion and the Civil Defense.
 
Surviving is his wife, Katherine Garrod Hawkins whom he married May 27, 1937. He was the father of the late David and brother of the late William, Alfred Jr., Robert and Edward Hawkins.
 
Survivors include two daughters, Betty (John) O'Brien of Batavia and Linda (Timothy) Munger of the state of Alabama; one sister, Dorothy Hawkins of Batavia and a sister-in-law, Maxine Hawkins of Florida. He was the grandfather of Gregory (Karen) O'Brien, Scott, Kim and Kevin Gabriel, Krystin Seales and Brittany Golden; great-grandfather of Steven, Alexander and Zachery O'Brien and Morgan Seales. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
 
Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St. Batavia. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, at St. James Episcopal Church, 405 E. Main St. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Elba.
