Aileen Shanahan Wilkes, 83 of Batavia. Died January 20, 2011 at the Genesee County Nursing Home. Born February 21, 1927 in Batavia, NY. Daughter of the late Michael J. (Grace Herdman) Shanahan. A lifelong resident of Batavia, Mrs. Wilkes was known for helping her husband Jack, start the Batavia Animal Hospital in the 1950’s, raising her large family, raising a large number of animals in the family home, her card clubs, bowling leagues, and enjoying her grandchildren. Kids were always welcomed at her house on Pearl St. Rd. Late in her life she enjoyed working at Oliver’s Candy Store, a great place to enjoy the “imperfects” and visit with customers. When not there, she was often on her front porch, cat in lap, visiting neighbors, or walking to the Library on Ross St. She is preceded in death by sister Nadine S. Gillard. 
 
Survivors include two sons, Todd (Jo Louise) Wilkes of Batavia; Timothy Wilkes of Newark DE; three daughters Pamela (Mike) Terry of Palm Bay, FL; Wende (David) Columbo of Camden, DE; and Amy Darron of Newark, DE; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; a niece and nephews. 
 
There will be no prior calling hours and services will be private at the convenience of the Family. Interment at Grand View Cemetery in Batavia.
