Dorothy J. Gavel, 90 of Batavia, NY, died peacefully on January 23, 2011. Born August 13, 1920 in Clarendon, New York. She is daughter of the late Karl (Jennie Foster) Jannain. Mrs. Gavel taught 5th grade in Elba for 34 years. She was wife of the Former Genesee County Sheriff Frank L. Gavel and Matron of the Genesee County Jail. Mrs. Gavel was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Batavia and arranged many trips for the Happy Agers in Alexander. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank L. Gavel (2008).
She is survived by daughter Barbara L. “Bobbie” Gavel of Batavia; dear friend Lisa Kaczmarek of Wyoming and her daughters Alicia, Sarah, Cassie, and Emily along with many nieces and nephews also survive.
There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Elba.
