Barbara A. Bradt

Barbara A. Bradt, 81, of Batavia passed away peacefully on Sunday April 9, 2017 at Premier Genesee Nursing Facility in Batavia. She was born in Warsaw on April 24, 1935, the daughter of the late George and Doris (Irish) Motts. Mrs. Bradt is predeceased by her husband Lorenz C. Bradt.

Barbara graduated from Warsaw High School in 1952, Genesee Community College and the SUNY Brockport where she received her Master’s Degree in Education Administration. She was employed at Attica Correctional Facility as a Vocational Secretary and was the first female employee to work in the back of the correctional facility. Barb was promoted to the Mental Health Dept. at Attica before leaving to begin her career at G.C.C. as an Academic Advisor. She was then subsequently promoted to the Supervisor of Inmate Education program. In this position, she supervised the college education program at Attica, Albion and Groveland Correctional Facilities for two years prior to accepting a promotion as the supervisor of Volunteer Service at Wyoming Correctional facility until she retired in 1997.  After her retirement from the prison system, Barbara began her volunteer work in the community at many places including disabled clients supervised by the Dept. of Parole Supervision in Batavia, the city’s RAP hotline, All Babies Cherished, Community Action hotline and the Northgate Church.

She is survived by her son; Steven (Mary Jean) Durfee of Bennington, NY; daughter Julie Durfee, Moab, UT; step children Mark (Dawn) Bradt of Attica, Steve (Sandy) Bradt of Nunda, Kevin (Sue) Bradt of Oakfield, Collin (Carol) Bradt of Gilford, NY, Brian (Jollene) Bradt of Batavia, Candice (Steve) Stump  of Elmira; sisters Shirley (Fred) Gardner of Warrington, VA, Judy (Frank) Fine of Casselberry, FL, Caroline (Bruce) Lamar of Hollister, MO; along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family to be determined at a later date.
