Lauretta M. (Stewart) Bower, 91, of Ft. Myers, FL. passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2017 at the Page Rehab & Healthcare Center. She was born on September 7, 1925 in Machias, NY to the late Frank and Susan (Bond) Stewart. She is predeceased by her husband Donald Oliver Bower who passed away in 1975 from a World War II Pacific Theatre related disease.

Lauretta was a member of the Alexander Central Class of 1943, one year after her husband graduated. She and Don began a successful dairy and field crop farm right after his Naval Service in Darien Center, at the corner of Broadway and Smithley Road.  Lauretta was a practiced equestrian with their horses. Once the farm, driven by their mutual hard work was in the clear, Don earned his pilot’s license so the two of them could join the farmers’ group that enjoyed Fly-in Breakfasts every weekend at the Perry-Warsaw Airport. They also enjoyed boating on Silver Lake and eating at the Silver Lake Country Club.  Due to her husband’s health, they had to sell the farm they had worked so hard to make successful, and Lauretta had to leave her horses. In N. Fort Myers, Florida, Lauretta began new careers, first as an administrator as the Cape Coral Golf Club was beginning to sell housing lots around it, and later, for 30 years as a City of Ft. Myers employee. Lauretta became a very active member of the Riverside Baptist Church.  She served as a Sunday School teacher for adults, a member of the choir, and a member of the baptismal staff.  After her retirement she devoted hundreds of hours of her time each year to both her church and Hope Hospice, earning many awards for her excellent and devoted service.

There will be no prior calling hours. An 11:00AM Graveside Service for Lauretta will be held on Saturday April 22, 2017 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Attica where she will be laid to rest.
