Mrs. Sarah R. "Betty" Churchill

Oakfield- Sarah R. “Betty” Churchill, 86, of Oakfield, a housekeeper at the former Treadway Inn, passed away Sunday, (July 3, 2011)at United Memorial Medical Center, with her family by her side.

Mrs. Churchill was born August 21, 1924 inCarlton, a daughter of the late Boo and Mary (Marrow) Cox.

She was the wife of the late Arthur Ames, Jr., the late Burt Richardson, and the late Floyd Churchill. 

A very independent person, she was a life long member of Oakfield Alabama Baptist Church, was an accomplished quilt maker, and loved to bake, sew, gardening, and traveling.  She especially enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are three daughters, Rose (Dr. Ronald Monacelli) Stoneham of Rochester, Mary (Neil) Barber of Port Orange, FL, and Sue (Allyn) Baubie of Bergen; a brother, Clayton (late Jean) Cox of Medina, three sisters, Beatrice (late Donald) Ostrander of Batavia, Florence Roth of Michigan, and Mary (Wilbert) Frasier of Albion. Five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.    

Mrs. Churchill is preceded in death by three brothers, Sidney, John, and Robert Cox; as well as a sister, Anna Mae Germeo.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Burdett & Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Avenue, Oakfield, where Sarah’s Funeral Service will be held on Friday morning at 11 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a donation to the Oakfield Fire Department, P.O.
