Walter E. Zielinski

Walter E. Zielinski, 92, of Batavia, died Monday (July 4, 2011) at New York State Veterans Nursing Home in Batavia.

He was born in Batavia on November 7, 1918, a son of the late Vincent and Eleanor Twadowski Zielinski. 

Mr. Zielinski was a U.S. Army Veteran having served with the infantry in the European Theatre during WWII.   He was retired from the former Doehler-Jarvis Co. where he was a process inspector.  He devoted thousands of hours volunteering at Genesee County Nursing Home for over 37 years.  Many of his photo's of Backward Glances of Batavia were published by the Batvia Daily News. He enjoyed collecting post cards and historic photo's of Genesee County.  Walter was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church and the Holy Name Society.

Surviving is his wife of over 64 years, Gladys L. Pigula Zielinski whom he married on September 14, 1946. Two daughters and sons in law; Karen and Charles Hamill of and Patricia and Robert McJury all of Fairport.A sister in law, Mary Wozniak of Batavia.  Three grand daughters: Abigail and Stephanie McJury and Amy Hamill. Nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. 

He is the brother of the late; Adeline Kisiel, Alfred and Anthony Zielinski.

Family and friends may call Wednesday from 3 - 7 PM at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC., 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA,  where prayers will be Thursday at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at Ascension Parish, (Sacred Heart Church).  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery with full military honors.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions in the form of Mass Offerings or to Genesee County Nursing Home, 278 Bank St., Batavia, NY.

The Sacred Heart Holy Name Society will recite the Rosary at 3PM Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
