Portland, MI. -  Paul M Tretter, 87, of Portland, MI, formally of Lewiston NY died Sunday, July 3, 2011 after a lengthy illness.

Born In Elba, NY, December 23, 1923, to the later Mathias and Helen (Meyer) Tretter, he graduated from Elba Central School and attended Cornell University.

Paul served in the US Navy Air Corp during WWII.  He married Margaret “Peggy” Morrison February 15, 1948.  They lived and raised their family in Lewiston until moving to Michigan in 2002.  Peggy passed away October 23, 2008.

Paul retired as a foreman from the NY Telephone Co.  After his retirement he had a private business installing and repairing telephones. He was a member of the NY Telephone Pioneers, served on the Board of Directors of Rivershore, Inc., a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Society and wa a  member of Immaculate Conception RC Church.  Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and always willing to help others.

Survivors include his children, P Brian Tretter of Lewiston, Ted (Susan) Tretter, Alabama, Marietta (Alden) Leatherman, MI, Margaret Tretter, Niagara Falls, Katie (Mike) Sootheran, Middleport, Daughter-in-law, Debbie Tretter, former Daughter-in-law, Kathy Hogan, 9 grand children, 3 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Isabelle Rada, Joan (Don) Moynihan), a brother Carl (Irene) Tretter, brother-in-law Kenneth Dehm.  He was predeceased by 2 sons, Mark and Christopher Tretter and 3 sisters, Mary Tretter, Sister Teresa Marie Tretter and Teresa Dehm.

Funeral arrangements were made by Hardison Funeral Home, Lewiston,  Thursday, ( July 7) at Immaculaate Conception Church, Ransomville, NY,   Memorials may be made to Rivershore Inc, 765 Cayuga St., Lewiston, NY 14092
