Shirley M. Shamp

Darien Center - Shirley M. Shamp, 81, of Darien Center, passed away Saturday (April 21, 2012) at United Memorial Medical Center, Batavia.

Shirley was born May 3, 1930, in Darien, the daughter of the late Henry and Florence Moser Kohlhagen.  Shirley was a 50 plus year member of the Corfu Grange, a member of the Genesee County Pomona Grange, New York State Grange and National Grange.  She was also a member of the Corfu United Presbyterian Church.

Shirley was a very dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.  She took great pride in holding on to family traditions, with special days set aside for things like baking Christmas cookies to coloring easter eggs.  Besides taking care of her own family, she was a caregiver for many children in the area.  Shirley loved to cook.  Flowers and gardening were two of her favorite pastimes.  She had a gentle, soft and loving way about her, that will be missed by everyone whose lives she touched.  Shirley's beloved husband of 61 years, Harold R. Shamp, passed away November 19, 2011.

Shirley is survived by two dear daughters, Kathy Miller of Varysburg and Connie (Paul) Alonzo of Darien Center;  four precious grandchildren, Kristie Miller (Michael Plitt) of Darien Center, Katie (Rasmus) Miller of Aalborg, Denmark, Andrew Alonzo of Darien Center and Amy Alonzo of Darien Center; two great-grandchildren, Imogene Plitt and Henrik Miller.

Family and friends may call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C. B. Beach & Son Mortuary, Inc., 4-6 Main Street, Corfu. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home.. Burial will be in the Alden Union Cemetery, Alden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Heritage Trust - Darien Lake State Park, 10475 Harlow Rd., Darien Center, NY 14040.
