Nellie A. VanScoy

Mrs. Nellie A. VanScoy, 97, who has resided in Batavia since 1990, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at the Genesee County Nursing Home.

Mrs. VanScoy was born November 8, 1915 in Newburgh, NY, the daughter of the late Carlton and Mary Ellen  (Sutton) Hall.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Batavia as well as First Methodist Church of Newburgh she enjoyed bowling, making ceramics and loved to sing in the choir.  Mrs. VanScoy once sang for Eleanor Roosevelt and was proud to have been in a movie as a child.  

She was the wife of the late Harry G. VanScoy.

Survivors include two sons; David (Charleen) VanScoy of Batavia and Douglas (Gayle) VanScoy of Greenville, SC and a sister, Dorothy Lynch of Poughkeepsie.  She was the grandmother of Shawn (Shannon) VanScoy, Mark (Greta) VanScoy, Jeffrey (Mandy) VanScoy and Laurie (Joseph) Hyink.  Also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

 Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 26, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Main St., Batavia.  Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 300 E. Main St. or the Salvation Army, 529 East Main St., both  Batavia, NY 14020. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Newburgh, NY. Arrangements were completed by the H. E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home of Batavia, NY
