Joseph S. Grasso, Sr.

Joseph S. Grasso, Sr., 93 of Batavia, passed away Friday morning (September 20, 2013) at his residence.

He was born in Batavia on July 1, 1920, a son of the late Louis and Angeline Butera Grasso.

Joseph was a U.S. Navy Veteran having served during World War II and was the Chaplain of the D.A.V. for several years.  He was the owner of the former Batavia Thrift Store on Jackson St. in Batavia prior to his retirement.  Joe’s life revolved around his family and was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandpa.  His presence will definitely be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Bessie A. Hale Grasso “Red” of Batavia. Two sons, Joseph (Carol) Grasso, Jr. of Batavia and Richard (Kathy) Grasso of Hilton. One daughter, Betty Ann Nash of Florida.  Sisters, Louise Capuano of Batavia and Sister Virginia Marie Grasso of Buffalo.  Sisters-in-law, Betty Grasso of Batavia and Nellie Grasso of Florida.  Also survived by 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren , great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Patsy, Frank, Andrew and Salvatore Grasso, Madeline Gabriele and Mary Jane Mruczek.

Friends and family may gather to share memories, thoughts and condolences on Tuesday from 3-6pm at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 Bogue Ave., Batavia.  A funeral service will commence at the conclusion of visitation at 6pm.  Private burial with full military honors will be in Grandview Cemetery.
