MR. ADELBERT H. "BUD" SNELL

Stafford - Mr. Adelbert “Bud” Snell, 92, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at the New York State Veteran’s Home in Batavia.

Mr. Snell was born July 16, 1921 in Elba, the son of the late Oscar H. and Helen Timmerman Snell.

He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran. Stationed in England with the 8th Air Force, 44th Squad, he flew 33 missions as an aerial gunner aboard a B-24.  After discharge as a Staff Sergeant he returned to Stafford to be employed by the town highway department, eventually retiring after serving 26 years as the superintendent.  He was a life member of the Stafford Fire Department and the Stafford Exempts, former member of the Elba Grange and board member of Godfrey’s Pond Association.

His wife, Edna M. Lonnen Snell died April 28, 2005.

Survivors include three sons; Gary (Linda) Snell and Douglas (Sherry) Snell, both of Stafford, Richard (Selena) Snell of Greece, NY; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandchild.  He was the brother of Daniel Snell and Marjorie Spangenburg and is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the H.E. Turner & Co. Funeral Home, 403 E. Main St., Batavia where services will follow at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Stafford Rescue Squad, PO Box 56, Stafford, NY  14143 or the NYS Veteran's Home, 220 Richmond Ave. Batavia, NY  14020.  Burial will be in Stafford Rural Cemetery, Stafford.
