James E. Soggs Sr.

James Edward Soggs Sr., 78, died Monday December 29, 2014 in Batavia. James was the son of the late Marvin and Elizabeth Soggs. He was born May 22, 1936 in Saltville,Virginia. He is preceded in death by two sisters Mrs. Jennie Eva Worley, Mrs. Kathleen Austin; three brothers Roscoe Soggs, Marvin Soggs and George Patterson.

James and his two brothers came to Batavia to work at the US Gypsum in Oakfield. He settled in Batavia where he raised his family. James was professional truck driver for 33 years, retiring from Emerson Express in 1997. James was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

James is survived by his loving wife Onie Ruth Soggs; sons David (Ellie) Soggs of Buffalo, James E. Soggs Jr. of Batavia; two step sons Robert Burney of TX, Tom (Jackie) Burney of FL; daughters Lisa Soggs of Buffalo, Cynthia (Robert) Thurston of Batavia; step daughter Cassandra Burney of GA; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

There will be no prior calling hours. A 1:00 PM Funeral Service will be held Saturday January 3, 2015 at Gilmartin Funeral Home & Cremation Company, Inc. 329-333 West Main Street Batavia, New York 14020.
