Orma Marie Worthington

Oakfield - Orma Marie Worthington, 87, a longtime resident of Oakfield and resident of the School House Manor in Oakfield for twenty years and the owner and operator of the former Oakfield Cash Market, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Genesee County Nursing Home, in Batavia.

Orma was born on August 5, 1927 in Lisbon, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Florine (Mills) Montroy.

In January 1948, she married Newell Worthington and was a longtime Oakfield Resident. 

She owned and operated the Oakfield Cash Market from 1947 through 1953 and from 1962 to 1975.  In the late 1950's she owned the Royal Restaurant and The Country Grill.  She was the manager of the Oakfield Mobile Home Park through the 1980’s and into the 90’s.  Orma was proud of her nurse's training and was an extremely hard worker with a focus on raising her sons. 

She was the loving mother to James (Carrie), Jeffrey (Kristin), and John (Sandy) and the proud grandmother of Jennifer, Becky, Jeffrey, Holly, Jamie, Randy and Kasey as well as 7 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Belva Meyer and Shirley Ram.   

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Burdett and Sanford Funeral Home, 11 Maple Ave., Oakfield.  Orma’s Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Padre Pio Parish, St. Cecelia’s Worship Site, 56 Maple Ave., Oakfield, NY.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Muriel H. Marshall Fund for the Aging, Rochester Area Community Foundation, 500 East Ave., Rochester, NY 14607.  Burial will be in Cary Cemetery in Oakfield.
