Donald A. "Don" Wicks

Donald A. “Don” Wicks, 86 of Oakfield, passed away peacefully on Tuesday (April 7, 2014) at the Batavia Health Care Center.
 
He was born in Batavia, NY on January 19, 1929, a son of the late Ackley and Erma Kilner Wicks.
 
He served with the National Guard from 1950 to 1953. Don was the owner of the former Oakfield Independent prior to his retirement and was a member of American Legion Post #626 in Alabama, NY and First Baptist Church of Batavia.  He was an avid bowler and bowled for several leagues in and around Batavia.
 
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marlene Gahagan Wicks of Oakfield.  Son and daughter in-law, Gerald (Kimberly) Wicks of Clayton, NC.  Nieces and nephews also survive.
 
He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Wicks and sister, Mary Fox.
 
Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, condolences and fond memories on Monday from 10-11am at the J. LEONARD MCANDREW FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2 BOGUE AVE., BATAVIA., where a funeral service will commence at 11am.  Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
